Hebrews 13:4 ESV /
Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

1 Corinthians 7:3-5 ESV /
The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

1 Corinthians 6:18 ESV /
Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

Genesis 2:24 ESV /
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

1 Corinthians 7:2 ESV /
But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

Proverbs 5:18-19 ESV /
Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 ESV /
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;

Matthew 5:28 ESV /
But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 ESV /
Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

1 Corinthians 7:5 ESV /
Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Colossians 3:5 ESV /
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

“You shall not commit adultery.

Genesis 39:7-10 ESV /

He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except yourself, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” And as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he would not listen to her, to lie beside her or to be with her.

1 Corinthians 6:13 ESV /
“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 ESV /
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Proverbs 6:32 ESV /
He who commits adultery lacks sense; he who does it destroys himself.

Romans 13:13-14 ESV /
Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

Ephesians 5:3 ESV /
But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.

Galatians 5:19-21 ESV /
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,

Romans 1:26-27 ESV /
For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Mark 7:20-23 ESV /
And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

1 Thessalonians 4:3 ESV /

The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” ...

Jude 1:7 ESV /
Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

1 Thessalonians 4:4 ESV /

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

After the fall we broke that union and the Bible is the literal story of that reunion.

Of course, sex represents that re-union as well. With this basic understanding you can go forth and understand the importance of sex and marriage to God.
Proverbs 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.

God has 30,900 other interests? Are you sure about this? I mean, really sure? Seems to be one of those numbers plucked from wherever one plucks numbers

I'm sorry I should have been more precise there are just over 31,000 verses in the bible (KJV) and (according to this list) only about 100"* that refer to sex. This amounts to about 3.5 % which wouldn't reasonably be referred to, at least proportionally as "inordinate"¤.

JW

* The actual number (depending on the counting system) is probably closer to 200
¤ inordinate : exceeding reasonable limits

I think if you love the person you are having sex with, and they love you, you can't go too far wrong.

Best wishes, 2RM.

So would hou define sexual immorality (fornication) as having sex without being in love with them?

So would hou define sexual immorality (fornication) as having sex without being in love with them?
I'm not at all sure I would want to attempt such a definition, at all, at all. Just offer this clue; that the church fathers listed lust as one of the seven deadly sins. And maybe just note that lust is about satisfying one's own self, and love (eros) is about satisfying one's belovéd partner.

Yes so lust is not (true) love. So when the bible says to flee from sexual immorality/fornication it means to avoid having sex with someone one isn't truly in love (not lust) with. Or is fornication - Greek pornia (sexual immorality) undefinable and thus for all effective purposes... a meaningless word.
1 CORINTHIANS 6:9-10

Or do you not know that unrighteous people will not inherit God’s Kingdom?+ Do not be misled.* Those who are sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, men who submit to homosexual acts, men who practice homosexuality, thieves, greedy people, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners will not inherit God’s Kingdom.

Curious; I know that god doesn't like it when single people have consensual sexual relations with one another, be they straight or homosexual, and that you agree, but to my knowledge he has never given a substantial reason for it. So, can you? Do you have a justifiable reason for not engaging in it?

I can't disagree with this. I would just suggest that, if you have never been in love, you have no base of experience with which to distinguish between lust and erotic love.

Do you think that is the biblical meaning of fornication? ie. "fornication" isnt in fact sex outside of god ordained marriage but sex without true love?

I wonder is this is a prevelent view amongst mainstream Christians. This is surprising to me but it explains a lot about morals amongst nominal Christians.

1 CORINTHIANS 5:11-14

But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church ? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”

Best wishes to you too 2RM

So, OK, let's look at the truth table:

1) It is possible to have sex with someone, and not be in love with them.
2) It is possible to have sex with someone, and be in love with them.
3) It is possible not to have sex with someone, and not be in love with them.
4) It is possible not to have sex with someone, and be in love with them.

Seems to me Christianity is all about items 3) and 4) whereas item 2) is not altogether undesirable, either. We should be wary of letting the best be the enemy of the good.

Best wishes, 2RM.
