How did Jesus become God?

Bart Ehrman has an excellent book entitled "How Jesus became God".

Without turning this into a book debate per se, let's turn the title into a question for debate.

How did Jesus become God? What do you think? What is your understanding of the process, or was Jesus always God? Evidence?

I realize there are a few assumptions in the debate question, but for argument's sake, let's go with it.

He simply declared it to be so:

John 10:30 (NWT)
"I and the Father are one.”

That does not mean Jesus is God, because then also his disciples would be God.

Also, Jesus says God is greater than him and there is only one true God.

This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
John 17:3

…the Father is greater than I.
John 14:28

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
1 Timothy 2:5

By what the Bible tells, Jesus is not himself the one and only true God, all though he acts in the name of God.

Just how many are in your 'Godhead'?

How many are there in all of creation? There is your answer, when God at last becomes all in all, that is.

Since Jesus said that only his FATHER is God- do you imply that Jesus later BECAME God, thus forming the Trinity?

I never said anything about the trinity. And what do you mean BECAME God? Jesus lived according to the Spirit / Word, as any one of us can. That is how he is one with God. That Spirit / Word has been there from the beginning (it is the ruach Elohim of Genesis 1). And in Genesis 1, I would argue that there were those, like Jesus, who lived according to the Spirit / Word, i.e., those who answered the successive calls, "Let there be..."

Does that place Jesus at the beginning? In a way I think so. Even though I would also say he is simply a human being like you or I who in his lifetime became and lived as part of the union that is God.

I can't help what other things Jesus said and what they may imply, but I do know he said

24 I [Jesus] said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he [god], ye shall die in your sins.

28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he [god], and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

Now, if you have to cherry pick and leave these on the tree in order to save your theology, I understand. Cherry picking the Bible is part and parcel of constructing a Christianity that conforms to one's particular theology.
