From Lifeway research
source
As a percentage of the 48% of Americans who believe the Bible is the word of god, this means that only 21% (about 1/5) of all Americans agree the Bible is 100% accurate in all that it teaches.
Boy, from the way Christianity is touted in the USA I would have figured the percentage would be much higher. How about you, does this seem about right?

Only 1 out of 5 Americans agree the Bible is 100% accurate in all that it teaches.

Post #2I'm not American and I dont know how rigourous the study was, but I have visited American (and have family in various parts of America including the Southern States ) and I do get the impression Americans were more religious than us Europeans. So yes with a massive 48% believing the bible is the word on God (nearly half of all Americans ) I would say, that sounds about right.
As for what they take "Word of God" to mean, with one in 5 taking that to be inerrant and (presumably the rest to be of divine origin), yes, that sounds about what I would have expected.

So you're saying follow what is gaining popularity? That's a very dangerous reason to change one's mind on anything.
What others think doesn't sway what I think about the Bible so the poll is useless to me.
In short the answer to your poll is, who cares? To those that do care about such polls, this explains a lot!

Post #4I've long thought that in this so-called "Christian nation," the real number is somewhere around 20% or so. Not surprising at all.

So you're saying follow what is gaining popularity?Well, let's see if that's what I said.[quote/]
I said:

So, nope, I didn't say "follow what is gaining popularity." So either your reading comprehension needs some serious work, or you've mistaken me for someone else and what they said.
Seems you cared enough to pose a question. So I guess you're one of those who does care about such polls, which explains a lot.In short the answer to your poll is, who cares? To those that do care about such polls, this explains a lot!

Post #7Miles' statement that, "So, nope, I didn't say "follow what is gaining popularity."" isn't an opinion. It is a fact. Have you noted it as well?2timothy316 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 4:41 pm [Replying to Miles in post #5]

To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

"Criticism of sources, authorship, or redaction with the intent to discredit the authority of the canon are more appropriate for the Christianity and Apologetics subforum."
So, I don't really think the person that posted the OP understands the point of this forum.
