7th day

Post by nobspeople »

And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

Why did god rest? Why did god, seemingly, had to rest? Why did god want to rest?

If god is all powerful (as some claim), why did it rest on day 7? Surely, being all powerful means unlimited power. And resting typically means you're tired from work of some type, and you take 'down time' to gather your strength.

For discussion:
Does 'rest' here, mean what it means for alive creatures (being tired and gathering strength)? If so, why did god rest?
If 'rest' here means something other than what it means for alive creatures (ie no need to gather strength), what does it mean exactly? And where, biblically, did you get that definition?
Have a great, potentially godless, day!

“Rest” is an interesting word. One could, after hammering 8 hours, but the hammer to rest. Does that mean hammer is tired? Obviously no, rest means that the working has ended. By what the Bible tells, I understand the point is, God created 6 days and then ended creating and didn’t create anything at the 7th day. Bible doesn’t say God rested because He was tired.

No, because a hammer is an inanimate object. Are you suggesting God is also?

To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

I must assume that knowing is better than not knowing, venturing than not venturing; and that magic and illusion, however rich, however alluring, ultimately weaken the human spirit.

I don't think God is inanimate object. But, by what I know, rest does not mean always that the one resting is tired.

The example you gave involves an inanimate object. If God isn't one, as you claim, how does your example relate to God?

The point was to show, “rest” does not mean that one is tired.
