Has it occurred to anyone else, that the chronology of the Egyptian religion is identical to the Christian religion?
In the beginning there was chaos, then the gods in the pantheon, then came the one god, Aten, then he was replaced by the resurrection cult of Osiris.
Where in the Christian religion:
In the beginning there was chaos, then the gods in the pantheon, then came the one god, Yahweh, then he was replaced by the resurrection cult of Jesus.
Isn’t it almost as if the Roman’s put modern lipstick on the Egyptian pig, then spread it through their trade lanes?

Post #83Yes, and ancient Judaism also had Asherah believers in there as the consort of Yahweh. There are a number of references to Asherah and her worship in the Hebrew Scriptures. Although explicitly forbidden in deut 16:21, there references in the bible, and some archelogical evidence show that many ancient Jewish considered them a couple.We_Are_VENOM wrote: ↑Sat May 07, 2022 5:16 pmI am talking about ancient Judaism, which was all about Yahweh.Goat wrote: ↑Sat May 07, 2022 12:49 pm Well, there was a shift from 'We worship Yahway above all others' to 'Yahweh is the only God' . Re: An Egyptian analogy
Post #84I'll expand on this a bit by saying that the references to King Josiah ousting the priests and symbols of Asherah from the temples of Yahweh (2 Kings 23) were extremely late, just before the Babylonian exile. This part of the Bible was likely written almost as it happened, so it wasn't written as "a long time ago, some Judahites worshipped other gods." The worship of Asherah alongside Yahweh and in the same temples was contemporary with one of the last kings of Judah.Goat wrote: ↑Sat May 07, 2022 8:53 pmYes, and ancient Judaism also had Asherah believers in there as the consort of Yahweh. Re: An Egyptian analogy
Post #85I certainly get the impression that there was a lot of 'foreign' worship, polytheism and even paganism in Israel (northern kingdom) at least, and a lot of the fretting of the OT writers was Judean Yahweist polemic aimed at those who were too tolerant of other religions. When Assyria smashed the Northern kingdoms, though Judea sighed over it, I get the feeling that Jeremiah and the like reckoned they had it coming because they weren't intolerant enough.

That much is scripturally clear, and that is all that was about.
You mention Deut 16:21, well, case closed.
God said no Asherah, so NO Asherah.

Well, at least we got you to admit there are other gods.
We got you to see Yahweh is reprobate.
This has been a good discussion.

Re: An Egyptian analogy
Post #89There is some evidence that Asherah worship was finally stamped out by the Powers that Be around the 3rd century bc , although that is sketchy at best. It did seem to have continued for a time even after the various books in the Jewish scriptures were writtenDifflugia wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 5:10 amI'll expand on this a bit by saying that the references to King Josiah ousting the priests and symbols of Asherah from the temples of Yahweh (2 Kings 23) were extremely late, just before the Babylonian exile. Post #90But, it lasted for centuries after the Jewish scripture was written. The priest had a hard time shutting it down, although they finally did.We_Are_VENOM wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 12:23 pmThe Ancient Hebrews were sometimes gullible and easily influenced by the god's of other nations, and were disciplined by Yahweh because of it.Goat wrote: ↑Sat May 07, 2022 8:53 pmYes, and ancient Judaism also had Asherah believers in there as the consort of Yahweh.
