Does God have a sense of humour?

Post by whatever »

Thought I’d start a less ‘serious’ thread. What does the bible say? Does it imply that God may have a less serious side? Can God find things comical or funny?

If yes, would he ever play pranks on people?

If no, why not? Would this mean man kind has a skill that God can never have?

Can a true God have a sense of humour or would it undermine his/her/its 'higher status'?

but jokes aside...

I'm surprised there were not many replies to this thread. I can only assume:

a) The answer is so obvious it doesn't deserve to be said.
b) No one knows
c) There are other more serious threads to be debating within.

:-k

maybe the bible is in fact one giant joke book, but we've just interpreted it all wrong :)

either that or God really just isn't funny.

I would think it would be difficult to preserve the humor of a joke for 2000 years.

"Have you heard the one about the 3 wise men?"

"yeah.."

well, not in theory... God should easily be able to make a joke so funny that no matter how may times you hear it you hurt with laughter..

Hurt? Try dying from laughter like the Monty Python sketch in "Now for Something Completely Different".

:)
Gilt and Vetinari shared a look. It said: While I loathe you and all of your personal philosophy to a depth unplummable by any line, I will credit you at least with not being Crispin Horsefry [The big loud idiot in the room].

Here is the script. It's absolutely hilarious.

Wenn ist das Nunstruck git und Slotermeyer? Ja!...
Beiherhund das Oder die Flipperwaldt gersput!

As to whether God has a sense of humour. Yes, I think so. If we are to believe God created us, then we can expect an involuntary action like laughter to have been created by God.

I think the question is not whether he has a sense of humour, but whether he laughs with or at people. :D

"Whatever", you have set your sites too low. We tend to see God anthropromorphically, but God, source of everything, including humor is, as always beyond His creations. Wisely, humor was created to allow us to handle the stuff in life that we otherwise could not. However, since Jesus came to show us God The Father, in every way we are able to grasp, and since Jesus himself had a wonderful sense of humor, I guess the answer is a qualified, yes!
