It seems to me that most atheists are politically liberal. But why is that? And should we include agnostics, humanists, and freethinkers? Most creationists tend to be political conservatives. Has it always been this way or is this relatively new? In the U.S., the polarization of the two parties is so severe that the thinking seems to be that if one identifies with either side he is expected to buy into the entire philosophy.
I've asked a lot of questions because as an agnostic I consider myself a conservative on most issues. Am I a man without a country? I would be interested in hearing what you have to say about any or all the questions I presented.

Yes. Typically, socialist and communist regimes are not religious. Even Venezuela!
The Nazis (Nazional Socialist German Labor Party) did the very Satanist by murdering a part of Abraham's people and therefore not very religious either.
Communism has always been "Atheist" patently and Communism isn't far from Socialism, let's be real about this point.
Good?

Post #73Hmmm. I have stated elsewhere that I do not believe the US has a left of center, only a right of center (democrats) and a far right of center (republicans). It might be a good idea, and open up the 'Great Debate', if you had.Aetixintro wrote: [Replying to post 1 by amortalman]
Aren't they also the most Socialist and Communist? The answer, my friend, is blouwing in the wind, the answer is blouwing in the wind...

Post #74You are referring to the Nazis who swore this oath:Aetixintro wrote:

Post #77What should give us even more pause for thought is that no evidence has been provided to support this conclusion. It may be the conclusion many wish is true, but that wish doesn't make it true.2ndRateMind wrote:That should give us all pause for thought.Purple Knight wrote:The Nazis thought they were religious, but they also thought they were doing good.Aetixintro wrote: [Replying to post 69 by Danmark]

Post #78History is the evidence that the Nazis weren't good. I would also say it bears mentioning that the religion they thought they were (Christian, primarily) preaches universal tolerance.Tcg wrote:What should give us even more pause for thought is that no evidence has been provided to support this conclusion. A few Nazis were Pagans, but I don't think you'll find Pagans that would accept Nazis as being real Pagans. An it harm none, do what ye will. That's something I've heard from real Pagans.

Re: Why are most atheists politically liberal?
Post #79Non belief has traditionally been in opposition to the status quo. And the status quo has traditionally been the conservative position.amortalman wrote: It seems to me that most atheists are politically liberal. But why is that? But like it or not conservatives, things are changing.
Polls indicate that the percentage of non believers in the U.S. has been rising at a rate of roughly 1% per year since 2000. At that rate non believers will be in the majority by the second half of this century. Non believers already are approaching half of the population of Europe.
As non belief reaches a position of status quo in the U.S., non believers will ultimately separate out into liberal and conservative factions. It seems likely however that non belief will remain a largely liberal position for the remainder of this century. By the 22nd century on the other hand, believers vs non believers will be much like the round Earther's vs the flat Earther's of today. The knowledgeable majority vs the apparently willfully ignorant minority.
