In Matthew chapter 8, verse 21 - 22 what does Jesus mean?
I initially think it means we must not waste any time, explaining to those who are closed-minded. That we should focus primarily on our own soul's welfare and follow Jesus.
Those who reject Christ despite all opportunity to receive Him must inevitably do as they wish.

Matthew 8:21-22
21 Another of Jesus’ followers said to him, “Lord, I will follow you too, but let me go and bury my father first.”
22 But Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and let those who are dead bury their own dead.”
Jesus means that he doesn't care about anyone's personal feelings about anything, but that everyone should give up everything that has meaning to them so they can unquestioningly follow him in strict reverence and obedience.
Nice guy.

Post #6Whom you find worthy of praise, adoration, love, and worship. OUCH! Can I assume he's the only tyrant you revere?

Re: Spiritually Dead
Post #7It reveals the arrogance portrayed in the Jesus character. He is presented as actually thinking that anyone who failed to follow him was spiritually dead. While they're all questionable, there are many spiritual paths for humans to choose from. Christianity is far from the only one. There's also nothing wrong with rejecting them all.Rose2020 wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 12:09 pm In Matthew chapter 8, verse 21 - 22 what does Jesus mean?

To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

I must assume that knowing is better than not knowing, venturing than not venturing; and that magic and illusion, however rich, however alluring, ultimately weaken the human spirit.

Re: Spiritually Dead
Post #8That is your stance, your right to have your opinion. It is very different from mine, I see Jesus Christ as Lord of my life. To follow Him is the greatest of blessings.
I don't need to argue this, the way some spend so much energy doing. Arguing never changed anyone else's mind, it just engenders more opposition. It is a spiritual and heart change.
Certainly nothing in this world can compare.

Post #9And yet here you are arguing this and spending your energy to do so. Odd, isn't it?
