Do animals have spirit?

I have two Italian Greyhounds, here's a picture of them:

Are these animals just lumps of matter or is there something more to them? Is it only people that are not lumps of matter?

We have folks here that seem to have a problem accepting the concept of life.

Perhaps that is why some think their parents created their life rather than passed on the life they already had ... in any case by answering the question: WHAT IS LIFE? (not what does it do, not what are Its properties, but what **IS** it? ...those that cannot distinguish between life and food (or life and procreation) may possibly begin to grasp the concept of the spirit*, for the two are effectively the same thing and quasi interchangeable.

Something that is alive "has" life ...something that was alive "had" life .... something that is not alive "has" no life.

Those that claim those sentences are "meaningless" are simply ignoring the most basic of obvervations even the staunchest philisophical materialists would be embarrassed to do. In secular language we say "alive"(ie with life), in biblical language we say "with spirit"; what is being described doesn't change because one says describes a phenonomen in a different language: both are describing an observable reality. The word LIFE has a meaning, we know this because regardless of the fact that it cannot be defined outside of its properties, man has spent millenia trying to recreate it.

What is your answer?

Jehovah's energy, so to speak, imparts life to the person or animal, in fact, all living things. His power/energy provides the breath of life to animate objects, people and animals foremost, as we are talking about them in particular.
