Worship of Idols

Post by Rose2020 »

Is not the worship of Idols the most fruitless and doomed thing anyone of any religion can do? To worship an object made by ourselves, endowed with imagined qualities and powers. Yet major religions are based on these.

The Bible warns of the dangers and wrongness of this. Of course 'idols' include all sorts of persons and objects we worship, often without realising. Such as pop stars, movie stars and sports figures, humans only like ourselves, elevated by the masses to a god-like status. Misplaced adulation which can evaporate overnight when some defect or weakness is discovered in the person.

Is it not the height of human folly?

Yes, but without God we all bow to other gods - so the worship of idols is the most natural thing in the world.
Proverbs 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.

Other than attaining some kind of freakish self-satisfaction, what is accomplished by worshiping anything else, such as paper clips, pancackes, or some god?

Man-made idols are useless. Christians are forbidden to worship any such.

Our Lord Jesus and His Father our Creator are another matter entirely.

Exactly. They're completely imaginary objects made by ourselves, endowed with imagined qualities and powers.

A little Buddha statue will at least get you 50¢ at a garage sale.

So, what do you accomplish by worshiping these gods?

Yes, and the Christian religion which many consider a major religion, qualifies as one that is, "endowed with imagined qualities and powers."

No it's not. Jesus was and is real, there is a wealth of evidence of the truth of Him and his apostles.
This you may accept or reject. I love my whole life upon the truth of Christ and the Bible.
