Here are the different English spellings I've seen for the title God:
- God
- GOD
- god
- G-d
Here are some of the proposals for the name of Biblegod:
- Yahweh
- Jehovah
- Yashua
- YHWH
We can turn to the Bible for help but in the first two chapters of Genesis we find two options:
- Elohim
- Yahweh Elohim
The Bible of course uses many other names for its God. One site I found listed 16. Once we look beyond Judaism and Christianity, we find an absurd number of gods and titles/names for them.
I've seen the claim that atheists are confused about the meaning of "God." I'd suggest the confusion doesn't lie with atheists but rather theists.
Why is there so much confusion?

Why the confusion?
Post #1To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

I must assume that knowing is better than not knowing, venturing than not venturing; and that magic and illusion, however rich, however alluring, ultimately weaken the human spirit.

MY ANSWER TO THE QUESTION: Possibly people are confused about the meaning of God because they have do not take note to what it says in dictionaries.

(I'm not comparing a mom to God; just making a point with one of the titles that I know and hold)
Although, we do actually have the name of God in what is written for anyone to see:
Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him. Psalm 68:4
This is also shown in the praise: Hallelu JAH...

The second is the name of God written along with the title/description.

There is confusion here for a few reasons I suppose: because the name of God - in what is written - has no vowels, and because Israel made it a practice not to same the name of God, and so the pronunciation got 'lost'. There is confusion because some people claim on their own authority what is or is not 'acceptable', and people listen to them. There is confusion because many/most people walk by sight, rather than by faith... and we don't have the full name written down for people to see, except "YHWH" (I don't think there is confusion about that, only about how to fill it in). Here are some of the proposals for the name of Biblegod:
- Yahweh
- Jehovah
- Yashua
- YHWH

The first is a title/description for the word 'god'. See here:We can turn to the Bible for help but in the first two chapters of Genesis we find two options:

I assume you are referring to descriptions/titles, so in keeping with the mom analogy:The Bible of course uses many other names for its God. One site I found listed 16.

[Replying to JoeyKnothead in post #7]
Someone asked me once if I was a Rastafarian because of that (though the pronunciation is with the 'y' sound - yah - instead of the English 'j' sound). I didn't understand why that person was asking me if I was a Rastafarian until they linked to that song. I also hadn't realized that's what he was singing about.

Post #9I can't tell if you're being serious or not. In case you're being ironic, Bob Marley sang this song as a genuine Rastafarian religious spiritual. Jah live! is Marley's faithful testimony to the living incarnation of Jah, Haile Selassie, sung to affirm Marley's belief that reports of Selassie's death were false.
