Is it evidence for or against religions if they came from America?
For instance Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses. Are there more? Scientology. Any more?
I would argue it is evidence against the religion because America has quite literally nothing the to do with the Bible. What other evidence flows from a religion coming from America?
How many religions came from America?

To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

I must assume that knowing is better than not knowing, venturing than not venturing; and that magic and illusion, however rich, however alluring, ultimately weaken the human spirit.

Post #22It matters greatly. Jesus started a single religion. 1 Cor 1:10 proves its a single religion, According to wikipedia there are about 34,000 of them claiming to be christian, 1 is in reality. The rest are misleading all listening to them to not enter Gods kingdom.

The many hundreds or thousands of tribes that covered America, not mentioning the Mayans and earlier great religions that must have existed long before....... all had their own particular religions, beliefs and ways.

Modern America.
Taking your view I generally believe we do have animist roots and then the number of gods and spirits could be more than that. If every tree and rock has a god behind it.
I am more interested in the modern JW, Mormons, 7th Day Adventists, Prosperity Gospel - any others?

After the Bahai leader's visit to the US in the 1920's (Abdul Baha?) The Bahai religion took quite a leap in numbers. The cradle of Bahai, Iran, has about 300,000 Bahais but there are about 5-7 million around the world and many in the States.
I think Christianity has taken a surge within the US, Wootah. We do have Christians in the UK but the vast mass of UK citizens are either atheists, agnostics, small social Christians or 'don't-cares'. But we hear that about half of the population in the US is more strongly Christian.

Post #26No, kjw47...... Paul (and others) started that religion/church.kjw47 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 9:17 pm

Jesus had nothing to do with that, other than the fact that Paul used a version of Jesus's name in its title.
Paul didn't give a fig for anything that Jesus did or said during his campaign and never wrote a sentence about any of it apart from referring to a last dinner and a crucifixion.
Review his letters and see for yourself.

Post #27Jesus commissioned Paul, so yes Paul did all Jesus taught. His teachings are in harmony with Jesus. Jesus told the Pharisees off in Matt 23, he told them they were cut off of being Gods chosen in verse 38, so yes a new religion began right then.oldbadger wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 2:03 amNo, kjw47...... Re: How many religions came from America?
Post #28No, Jesus didn't commission Paul, nor did Paul have anything to tell about what Jesus said or did.
Search as you may you won't find a sentence in any of Paul's letters which refer to what Jesus said or did, apart from mentions of a last meal, crucifixion and a coming back to life. Nothing.
Paul didn't care about what Jesus said or he would have made mentions such as:- 'Remember what Jesus said.... he told us about........' etc....
Nope. Nothing.
But Peter did, he wrote about being with Jesus on the mountain........ see the difference?

The fact God used Paul as a bible writer proves he taught truth. Paul went through hell standing up for Jesus.

Re: How many religions came from America?
Bible writer? What?
Paul wrote letters to folks, a few, but he was standing up for a church and he absolutely did not refer to anything that Jesus ever said/did.
The people who wrote depositions (later called gospels) about Jesus DID refer to what Jesus said and did; it just remains for readers to decide which of those depositions are true.
Paul's letters........ about churches.
Gospel writer's depositions........about Jesus.
A difference.
