Are there any Easter Traditions that are related specifically to Jesus' resurrection? The Easter eggs hunts, bunnies and pastel-colored candies seem to be a celebration of spring. Certainly, sermons will be preached on Jesus' resurrection, but are there any Easter Traditions that Christians practice with their families that are focused on Jesus?

Easter Traditions?
Post #1To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

I must assume that knowing is better than not knowing, venturing than not venturing; and that magic and illusion, however rich, however alluring, ultimately weaken the human spirit.

The scripture are clear that Jesus was resurrected on "the third day" (Acts 10:39, 40) which is not possible if one is to literally include three night periods.
Mark 8:31 says the Messiah would rise after 3 days. Also Luke 24:21 indicates that it was after 3 days, so to be in line with those two verses, "on the third day" must be referring to on the third day after the day of His death.

Re: Easter Traditions?
Post #273Matthew 12:40 doesn't have the Messiah saying anything about 3 calendar days. But as has been touched on, He does specifically say that 3 days and 3 nights would be involved.

Re: Easter Traditions?
Post #274It is probably "a reasonable explanation" for those under the false gospel Grace/cross/lawlessness (Mt 13:41) of the false prophet Paul (Mt 7:13-25), who was glorified by the "beast with two horns like a lamb (Christlike leaders)", Constantine, and for these two "shepherds" (Zech 11:7), Constantine built basilicas (form of pagan cross) for both. Those with the mark of the beast (Rev 13), of course fall under the veil of those "deceived", which includes those "who dwell on the earth". The "feast of the Unleavened bread" (the 15th of Nissan), the initial night of the internment, which is a high holy Sabbath, on average, only falls on Sunday every 7th year. 3 days and 3 nights after the interment, late on the Sabbath (NASB 1971 edition) the tomb was found empty. That Sabbath would be the 7th day of the week Sabbath. The next day would allude to the 8th day, which refers to the day of judgment, the day the devil is cast into the lake of fire (Rev 20), the 8th day of the feast of booths, which symbolizes the end of the millennium. The "beast", Constantine received his authority from the "dragon"/"devil" (Rev 13:4) by way of Julius Caesar, who was the 5th head of the beast (Rev 17). The 15th of Nissan of 2023 will occur on a Thursday, not on a "Sunday". https://www.chabad.org/calendar/view/da ... /15&mode=jJehovahsWitness wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 5:39 pmWhy should I? No 3 days and 3 nights, then you have no sign. You might want to rethink your position. No, resurrection on the SUNDAY
Jesus being dead [parts of] Friday [day 1] , [all of ] Saturday [day 2] , [parts of] Sunday [day 3]
JW
Idiom: ie Jesus was using days and nights idiomatically not literally.

Since the Jewish tradition was to count an entire day (24/hours period - including the night) as one unit, by being in the tomb parts of three consecutive days he was indeed dead three days "and nights". The scripture are clear that Jesus was resurrected on "the third day" (Acts 10:39, 40) which is not possible if one is to literally include three night periods.

Post #277What is there in scripture which makes it absolutely, positively, no question about it necessary to say that the Messiah didn't mean that at least parts of each one of three night times would be involved?

Post #279And based on Mark 8:31 which says that the Messiah would be raised after three days, the Acts account must mean raised on the third day after His death. And this is in line with Luke 24:21.

Re: Easter Traditions?
Post #280THREE DAYS LATER OR ON THE FOURTH DAY?
The Greek word "meta" has far too broad a meaning to categorically insist it means after three complete days AFTER an event (ie 72 hours) Note STRONGS entry ...
In short "meta" can refer to an event after 3 complete days or after any part of the three days. A case in point is when Mary and Joseph were searching for the young Jesus (Luke 2:46). We cannot be catagoric whether they found Jesus on the 4th day or the third but what seems obvious is that they did not wait until the end of the day that he went missing (or they noticed him missing), to begin their search. So Lukes reference that they found him "after" (meta) 3 days must have included part of at least one day.
Thus we can understand "after" [parts of and/or all of] three days ...
Or ....
Aramaic Bible in Plain English " ...and in three days he shall rise"
Good News Translation "...but three days later he will rise to life"
JW
