Should Christians fast more?

Post by historia »

As I write this, we are in the midst of Advent, a time when historically Christians fasted.

That practice is still observed in the Eastern Churches, but is not obligatory in the West. Even during Lent, many western Christians don't really fast, instead just refraining from a single type of food or a particular activity. To my knowledge, Evangelicals and many sectarian groups don't encourage fasting at all.

Question for debate: Should Christians fast more?

:D

Where are your incontrovertible FACTS that fasting is not good for the human body and soul?

I rest my case and accept your admission of being in over your head on this one.

Another deflection and refusal to answer my questions. There is no water in your pool to go over my head. You are defeated.

Fasting is spoken of throughout the OT and NT.

Jesus says "When" you fast. Not IF or PER CHANCE you try it. He says "When."

Fasting is very good for the body and soul. It purifies the physical body while sanctifying the spirit. MANY diseases and illnesses are completely wiped out through the practice of Fasting.

Jesus says that some demons can only be cast out through "Prayer and Fasting." A very important note to learn from the Scriptures.

This is a great indicator that dis-ease of the body is actually a very spiritual condition.

FASTING is highly touted as a very health-beneficial practice. Christians should absolutely fast more and God, in the OT and NT, tells Christians to do so.

Those words were evidently not part of Marks original gospel and most modern translation fo not include "and fasting" which experts agree were added later.

In Matt. 9:14 (Mark 2:18; Luke 5:33) the disciples of John the Baptist and others asked Jesus:

“Why do we and the Pharisees practice fasting but your disciples do not fast?
