Several years ago, an article ran where a person killed another person's dog (for no good reason) and the dog's person pulled, I believe it was, a compound bow on the person to kill them. Another person talked the owner out of killing the person that killed his dog, unfortunately.
I'm pretty sure I'd not be strong enough to not seek revenge on the other person, but that's neither here nor there.
In another incident, a dog was killed and when the owner tried to sue, citing emotional loss akin to a family member, the courts decided that (in this area) a dog is nothing more than property. Disgusting, really.
For discussion:
Legalities aside*, speaking morally and ethically, should pets be considered more than property? Or should they, like your car, remain nothing more than property?
*Laws may differ from location to location, so let's avoid this potential quagmire.

Re: Pets as property
Post #4They're already some of those extra things because there are some things you can't do to your own dog.
But even if they were only property, as far as the man killing someone else's dog, I think he owes more than a new dog of equal value.
If someone kills one of my cats I want a leg. I'll stuff it and mount it, and keep it on the mantle.
