How the World Ends

This is amazing. I'd encourage everyone to watch this whole video.

Our world has changed - permanently - and there is no telling what will happen.

There are so many examples that show how things have changed already. This is not conjecture, but current technology that is in it's infancy, but there is no putting the genie back in the bottle.

For example, by only looking at an MRI of your brain, a computer can reproduce what you see. It can telll you exactly what you are seeing and feeling when you watch a video.

Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin discuss how existing A.I. capabilities already pose catastrophic risks to a functional society, how A.I. companies are caught in a race to deploy as quickly as possible without adequate safety measures, and what it would mean to upgrade our institutions to a post-A.I. world.

This presentation is from a private gathering in San Francisco on March 9th, 2023 with leading technologists and decision-makers with the ability to influence the future of large-language model A.I.s. This presentation was given before the launch of GPT-4.

Note near the end of the lecture how it talks about how AI is now, now only increasing at an exponential rate, but at a double exponential rate. It mentions how it only took a short time to learn how to beat humans at their own games - and this will feed into persuassion. Political, economic, etc. And AI will learn to play the game better than any human.

We are not only looking at the end of religion, etc., we aren't even sure what we are looking at. We have no idea what AI has in store for humans.

If 50% of engineers said their Airplane have a 10% chance of killing all the people on board, would you get on the plane?
50% of AI experts believe there is a 10% OR GREATER chance AI kills off all of humanity.

I strongly suggest people look up Tristan Harris. He recently spoke to Congress about some of these issues.
