Why do we celebrate the birth of Jesus?

Because we are happy he was born.
We are happy about the incarnation - that God became a man and walked with us.

We are happy that he was born also. But (1) he never told us to celebrate his birth, and we don't even know the date! The only thing he told us to celebrate was his death (Luke 22:17-19). (2) The traditions that are celebrated are bound in ancient pagan practices (the yule log for one) and do not honor Jesus. Why mix darkness with light? (2 Corinth. 6:14-18) Jesus is the "truth" and does not appreciate being associated with pagan fantasies. (John 14:6)

We love Jesus. He is our King. We celebrate his presence every day and do not single out one day to remember him (except Nisan 14).

So if God became a woman then you would be happy and celebrate her birth  Do not be afraid of my daughter  She was born in 1998 :joy: Have a wonderful Christmas:

Sure, God could have chosen to be born a woman. God is Spirit and has no gender. Men and women are equally made in God's image. However, to be fully human God had to have be either male or female. He was male, but he didn't have to be.

Great!

So? We want to celebrate the event, and joy is a fruit of the Spirit.
onewithhim wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:57 am and we don't even know the date!
Sure, we could be wrong about the date. Does that matter?

onewithhim wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:57 am The only thing he told us to celebrate was his death (Luke 22:17-19).
We do celebrate his death. And his resurrection. And his birth. We have a lot to celebrate!

onewithhim wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:57 am (2) The traditions that are celebrated are bound in ancient pagan practices
Neither I, nor anyone I know, celebrates traditions bound in ancient pagan practices.

onewithhim wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:57 am (the yule log for one)
Ok, but who do you know that keeps a Yule log? That is not a tradition I have ever seen anyone practice.

I do not understand the mindset that calls joy darkness.

He is our King. We celebrate his presence every day and set aside days to focus even more on the birth of our King!

How do you know what God chooses to be  Let us celebrate the birth of a female and not just the birth of a male  Where is my Queen :joy: Is Jehovah dead or alive:
Because Jesus was male.
You asked why we celebrate the birth of Jesus. I told you why I celebrate. You can celebrate whatever you want.

What gift are you going to give Him this year?

Why did God chose to be a man and not a woman
[/quote]

No idea. I have noticed that God does not answer many "why" questions. It is almost as if he wants us to trust him (have faith) instead of demanding answers.

Yes, the Lord lives.

I remember him saying that what he wants from us is that we act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God. So probably something like that.

You left out 2 words.

Though I believe Jesus birth was not on December, it celebrate the season of giving just like what the three wise men did.
