If you were in the following situation, and given the opportunity this man Sam was given, and read what he understood to be true, with no outside help, what would you decide?
There was this man named Sam who was on death row, let's say 5 days away from getting the electric chair for murder. A certain Pastor convinces him to read the King James New Testament and to make a decision to receive Jesus Christ as his Savior or not. As for his education, Sam dropped out of High School in the eleventh grade, but he could read; however, his reading skills were minimal. He knew his way around people, mostly bad people, and he had many bad habits, but he was a survivor in a hard life. Before he begins reading, he asks the Pastor, who could not help him study, what he should be looking for. The Pastor tells him, "Be sure you know who Jesus Christ is."
He replied, "Ok, I'll do the best I can." Before he begins, he is given some writing paper and a pen. So, he starts. As he read, of course, there were things he could not understand, but there were a few things that were very obvious concerning Jesus, so he wrote them down. Following is his list.
1. Jesus' Father was God.
2. Jesus was expected by the Jews hundreds of years before he was born.
3. An angel of the LORD said to his mother Mary, he shall be called Emmanuel, God with us.
4. He appears to be able to read the thoughts of those around him.
5. He was both loved and feared.
6. He could work miracles.
7. His platform was "Love your neighbor."
8. He raised a dead man named Lazarus back to life.
9. He was innocent but was convicted to die by the people he came to save.
10. After his death, he was raised from the dead and then ascended to his Father in heaven.
11. The apostle John said, Jesus is the Word, and the Word was God.
12. Paul wrote that this man Jesus would raise those who loved him back to life in the last days.
13. Paul said it was Jesus who created the heaven and the earth, and everything in them.
14, John in Revelation calls him the Almighty.
After five days, the man finished, put his pencil down, fell on his knees, and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord, Saviour, Creator, Redeemer, and Judge. When the guards came to pick the man up and lead him to his execution, Sam saw the Pastor standing there, and with a broad smile, he gave him a thumbs up.
If you were in Sam's position, a simple man, uneducated, no dictionary or Lexicons, no fancy words or phrases, no outside help, and picked up the New Testament of the K.J.B., read it through, made the same list Sam did, would you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?
If not, why not?
What if?
