Welcome!

Post by His Name Is John »

It seems to me, that new members rarely post a introduction thread anymore. As such I am making this thread as a way that new members can say hi, and get to know a couple of people on the forums.

So to all the new members:

First of all, hello!

Second, why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Good day, John. I'm brand new, and this seemed like a good place for a first post.

As often happens when I'm "just reading", I happened up on a particular thread that i just can't resist. I haven't posted yet, but I will when I have a few extra minutes.

About myself: I live in the American South, but quite different from most of my Southern neighbors. I'm an Episcopalian, a lover of European football, and lean politically left of some Bolsheviks at times.

Thanks much for your welcome!

Hi Bob! Welcome to the forum! :) :)

I'm also a leftist -- a libertarian socialist, to be exact. Nice to see other anti-capitalists here.

Hi Haven, thanks for the welcome!

I made the same self-description recently to a Facebook friend, a professor at GWU. He had said something about the right wanting anything goes and the left wanting a forced regulated society. I told him that while it was true that to enforce some reasoned principles, some regulation was necessary. But that there IS a such thing as a libertarian leftist. Far as I'm concerned, get rid of the war on drugs, sell me anti-biotics over the counter if I choose to buy them, and even let these cowboy wannabes have their guns.
But regulate the corporations, who have proven that profits trumps all, and set principled laws that will put that cowboy under the jail if he "stands his ground" against a member of my family who doesn't need to carry a sidearm to feel like a man.

:-)
Thanks again!

Introducing Myself

Post by RobertCorfield »

Hi

Just joined.

I live in Birmingham UK and do voluntary work while seeking work. I have been given a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia; this is controlled by medication. So I don't hear voices or suffer from paranoia at present.

I'm interested in science, philosophy, religion and X files type stuff.

My viewpoint is currently skeptical and atheistic. I'm interested in what reasons a person will give for their beliefs and to see if these convince me to change my mind. I doubt I would change my mind, but you never know.

Introduction

Post by jimvansage »

You all will know me as Jimvansage
I am a Minister for the Sesser church of Christ in Illinois
I became a Christian four years ago

I am trying my best to make it clear that it is not my intent to force my beliefs upon others, but to give an answer demonstrating why I believe what I believe
(and of course, on occasion and in debate, show why reasons for unbelief are inadequate)

I believe that the following facets of my faith can be demonstrated by logical deduction
1. There is a God
2. The Bible is God's Word*
3. Jesus Christ is the Son of God

Don't ask me what denomination I am because I am not a member of any denomination - I am a Gospel preacher and a member of the church of Christ (Rom. 16:16)

*By the Bible, I mean the 39 books commonly found in the Old Testament (Genesis-Malachi) and the 27 books commonly found in the New Testament (Matthew-Revelation) - not a precise enough definition for my taste, but it will do for know

Any questions, feel free to ask!
