Obsessed with Sex?

.
Why do Bible writers, Bible characters, and many Bible believers place so much emphasis on sex?

Most of the concern seems to be sexual activity of OTHER people. Does this suggest that they are themselves sexually frustrated or deprived (depraved?) -- or in the vernacular "not getting enough" OR "never got any" OR "kinky"?

In a word Monks, it is not natural to abstain from such a natural act.

There are about 31,000 verses in the bible; even on an outside guess I would say there are no more than 200 of them that deal with matters of sexual behaviour. That's a very small percentage. If something is mentioned relatively rarely it is a massive leap to suggest "obsession".

Sex is part of life, and when sexual behaviour it is mentioned in scripture it is never presented in a way to suggest it should be taken lightly, but from there to suggest that there are a dispropotional number of bible verses dealing with sex is unfounded in reality.

Are there an inordinate amount of bible verses that address sexual issues?

I can't really speak for any other bible believers but myself, so I cannot objectively answer that questions. Personally I have never in my 35 years of Christian ministry ever asked anyone about their sex lives or any other personal matter. I have been asked by others and while I do not share intimate details of my life to strangers, am happy to explain that as one of JEHOVAHS WITNESSE I live by bible standards and this includes the bible mandate to "flee from fornication" (which JWs believe to be sex outside of marriage).

Jehovah's Witnesses have 2 public meetings a week and the emphasis is on our Christian lives and Ministry. The bible standards on sex and marriage is sometimes delt with since we hold high moral standards in this regard, but this is extremely rare and the matter is never treated in an explicit, titilating or pornographic manner but rather in the clear, frank educational way, leaving family heads to deal with more intimate details in private.

In short, if I were looking for somewhere where people are obsessed with sex, it would not be within my organization but rather in a world outside of it where sex, nudity, prostitution a booming sex slave trade, sexualization of children, provocative clothing, sexually suggestive advertising, explicit movies and music industry and an ever growing addiction with pornography seems to be the norm.

Wow, I've managed to impress myself, that was pretty much spot on. If you find another site that can find a total of more, fine, but as it stands my ball park figure was right. (and yes, it was a guess - turns out to be a pretty good one).

Sex is the human metaphor for our possible unity with GOD, a metaphor written into our genetic code. All human improper sex outside of marriage or against other commands are a metaphor for our idol worship of evil connections with sinners, seeking the pleasures and profits of sin, rather than trusting in the care of GOD and seeking HIS unity.

IT is the heart of our human life and desire so why would it not be important for us to understand GOD correctly on this?

Other than that, I think your use of "so much emphasis " is exaggeration for effect...and not so reflected in the Bible..
PCE Theology as I see it...

We had an existence with a free will in Sheol before the creation of the physical universe. Here we chose to be able to become holy or to be eternally evil in YHWH's sight. Then the physical universe was created and all sinners were sent to earth.

This theology debunks the need to base Christianity upon the blasphemy of creating us in Adam's sin.

Hello Mr. Z!! You are still my favorite letter of the alphabet :-)

Perhaps it is an issue in the Bible, because God knew how it would trip us up! Sex is a huge driving force, not just in the past, but currently, that causes a men and women to do some pretty crazy things. It has been the downfall of many men and women.

Have a wonderful day!

They were “obsessed with it because everyone else is obsessed with sex. It’s called “being relevant.

As someone else brought up, there are about 31,000 verses in the bible. There are even more in the Roman Catholic canon since it contains more books and even more in the Eastern Orthodox Bible, which contains even more. JW is being charitable when he gives the number at 200. It’s less.

Saying that the Bible writers were obsessed with sex, when the condemnation of oppressing the widow, the orphan, and the stranger is mentioned as often if not more, only proves the point that the Bible reflects the issues of the time (and some which remain issues today.)

It's a great form of control. Control sex and relationships, control the person.
