Biblical accuracy as scientific approach.

Post by DanieltheDragon »

Since this is the science and religion thread I thought we include a mirror thread examining the bible using the scientific method.

In order to establish the bible as accurate or trustworthy, let us try and falsify its claims.

1. Are there testable claims?
2. Can we make predictions from these claims?
3. Are expirements of these claims reproducible?

Note: an accurate claim does not negate an innaccurate one. For the bible to be accurate or trustworthy it can have no innaccurate claims.

I'll play :)

1. Testable claim:

From www.biblegateway.com
Matthew 4:8New International Version (NIV)

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
2. Predictions from this claim:

- If one climbs the highest mountain, one should be able to see every 'kingdom'

-> Clearly this is false since the earth is spherical.

3. Are experiments of this claim reproducible?

-> Yes, go climb as high a mountain as you like and see how far you can see. Feel free to bring the most powerful telescope you can. Attempt to see every 'kingdom'.
