'Bashing Christians'?

From a current thread:
Someone wrote: And while we're on the subject -- have you ever considered advocating for a more accurate title for this forum? "Bashing Christianity & Religion", perhaps?
DC&R is a DEBATE Forum and C&A is a DEBATE sub-forum. No theistic position is given protection or preference. Those who cannot accept challenge are likely to become frustrated, angry, and possibly hostile. They may be more comfortable posting in Holy Huddle sub-forum where only Christians may post. There they can avoid the inconvenience of having 'Atheists' point out flaws in Christian literature and doctrine.

Perhaps there should be a sub-forum entitled “Whining and Complaining for people who do not fare well in debate to make excuses, vent their frustrations, and do some face-saving. People who do well in debate seldom complain about the Forum (and via PM rather than hijacking threads with their personal problems).

It seems a bit akin to a sports team that does not fare well saying 'The rules are not fair' – even though the same rules apply to both sides. If anyone should ever think that the 'umpires' are not fair here, take that up with Otseng – site owner, head honcho, devout Christian. Tell him that the 'bad boys' are 'bashing' Christians. Maybe he can be convinced to give Christians 'protection' or preferential treatment – but I don't think so.

Exactly what changes would be recommended to help Christians debate?

Has anyone noticed that Apologists often attempt to 'bash' Atheists, science, knowledge, education, information – but are unsuccessful in their attempts? Why is that? Could it be that truthful information, science, knowledge, education, etc FAVOR Non-Theism?

Right-wing extremist Christians are deserving of a bashing, imo.

If it seems to Christians that they are being bashed, then it must feel to them like they are taking a beating. There must be a reason for that, because I am reasonably certain the non believers that frequent this forum do not feel like they are taking a beating.

A debate is a contest of producing and evaluating facts, and then relying on reason and logic to establish which side apparently holds the superior position. The side that is losing out in a contest of facts, reason and logic will inevitably feel like they are taking a beating. The problem with believers of ALL religious beliefs, is they DO NOT LIKE having their beliefs contradicted. They believe that they have a God given right to dish out their assertions, but should never have to face contradiction.

There is NO SUCH "God given right." If one's belief system does not stand up well to factual and logical criticism, that should be considered the first clue that it might very well have been nonsense all along.

Excellent point TN. The 'winning side' does not describe their position as 'getting bashed'.

When Theists attempt to 'Bash Atheists' in these debates they seem to fail spectacularly (or at least obviously -- except perhaps in their own opinion).

Right again. Adding, to some extent lack of debate ability / experience may contribute to one side 'losing'; however, it would not seem as though theistic position itself should help or hinder debate ability.

It does seem as though religions and religionists are adverse to challenge and contradiction.

Agreed. If my position on ANY matter did not hold up to challenge, examination, criticism, debate, etc, I would re-examine WHY I held that position – and would consider alternatives.

Perhaps that is frightening to those heavily emotionally invested in a theistic position?
