Fake news

The Internet is full of fake news at present, which is highly unpleasant, Facebook seems to specialise in it! Although it appears to be a modern phenomenon, I wonder if actually the Bible started the trend with its less than credible stories?

Do you mean "true" or "supported by historical evidence" ?

Both. There is no contemporary evidence to validate the claims associated with Jesus. Meaning that not only are the proposed miracles unsubstantiated, but even the mundane claims of where he was born

Highly unlikely, historical evidence indicates Christianity started in the very location where it's principle character was said to have lived, well within living memory of those that could, and by all accounts would, have exposed the stories about him as false if that were the case. If Nazareth never had a carpenter called Jesus who was famous in the region for his miracle working feats and public teaching, the local residents would have simply have had to point that they had only ever had one carpenter in the region and his name was Fred.
What historical evidence suggests Christianity originated in Nazereth? The earliest references to Nazereth are around 300CE. So what accounts predating this show a growing Christian community in Nazereth?

Bible is mainly about good and right. Is it fake news that murder is wrong? :)

Ah, you are clearly a fan of doing what Jesus says, instead of what God does, and commands!

Is the bible the first written book reporting such things? If so, the answer would be YES. If not, then NO (I know, duh right?!?)

First or not, I don't think that's important. What's important, as far as I can tell, is anything that's false that taught (and believed) to be true.
While the bible seems to want to prove itself (which is hilarious - what other book would be accepted to say "I'm true because I said so!"?!?!) and many believe it, there has to be personal responsibility with people.
In other words, the phrases "God (the devil/the bile) told me to do it" shouldn't be accepted as anything other than mental illness OR being from drug induced state.
But today's people don't like personal responsibility. Just wait until this trend catches on with religion with today's young people!
We'll be in for a world of hurt

The Fake News thing may be a bit of a fad at the moment. My son was showing me a video the other night about creating fake news. The way to do it and then see how many of your friends on facebook believe it.

What it demonstrates to me is what a gullible lot us humans can be. It's no wonder we gravitate to religion.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

"If I were to run, I'd run as a Republican. They're the dumbest group of voters in the country. They believe anything on Fox News. I could lie and they'd still eat it up. I bet my numbers would be terrific."

The above quote has been widely attributed to Donald Trump. And it's fake news.

The "dumbest voters in the country" remark may have some basis in reality, however.
Image "The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this." -- Albert Einstein -- Written in 1954 to Jewish philosopher Erik Gutkind.

The term may be a fad, but the concept is as old as writing. It used to be called "yellow" journalism. Just a note, however, fake news is not misreporting. It is intentionally reporting something wrong, or repeating something that was intentionally reported wrong. It began as a website Fake News Watch that lists hoax, satire and clickbait sites. Hillary used the term in the election and Trump then turned it against her.
