Post by American Deist »

This information comes from an article about JWs, that was done by the Pew Research Center (2014).

Source: http://www.pewforum.org/religious-lands ... s-witness/

Highlights:

Women make up 65%
Men make up 35%

Household income below $30,000 = 48%
Household income above $30k but below $50k = 25%
Household income above $50k but under $100k = 22%
Household income over $100k = 4%

High school education or less = 63%
Some college but no degree = 25%
Bachelor's = 9%
Master's or Doctorate = 3%

Word of God is literal = 47%
Word of God not always literal = 40%

Believes in heaven = 50%
Don't believe in heaven = 38%

Just found it interesting, so I posted it. I'll do some more for other denominations so we can see how they all stack up.

Jehovah's Witnesses - Women make up 65% Men make up 35%
Catholics ------------ - Women make up 54% Men make up 46%
Evangelical --------- - Women make up 55% Men make up 45%
Mormons ----------- - Women make up 54% Men make up 46%

In all cases, women outnumber the men, which is an interesting statistic considering the GOD is regarded as masculine and that the compliant is often that Abrahamic religions are designed around male bigotry, as the OP of the thread "If god was female?" examples.

Perhaps there is some underlying recognition with women in relation to the GOD idea to which they identify with, perhaps even strongly?

The statistic re Jehovah's Witnesses does not surprise me. They knock on my door quite often and are usually females. I think that the main message/focus of doctrine/dogma the organisation pushes, is more attractive to females than to males.

I think the overall appeal of the message of Jesus ticks a box in the hearts of females more often than in males, and the stats support the observation.

But there is also that darker side of the GOD which obviously doesn't put women off...:-k

Is it really that important that GOD is understood to be a male entity? Image< click for link
