Banned Members

This may be inappropriate (i.e., none of my business) but I am so curious; what does it mean to be banned, since clearly banned members can continue to participate?

Banned members are not supposed to be able to post. Do you see a banned member posting?

He may be seeing posts that say "banned" because the poster was banned after posting.
