Jehovah's Witneses in Russia a facing an imminent ban which would criminalize all of Jehovah's Witnessses in the country as "extremists". Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide are presently conducting a letter writing campaign to protest this injustice.

What is your opinion of this move? Should Jehovah's Witnesses be banned from meeting to pray, read their bibles and sing spiritual songs together?

Do you think such a move could be envisioned elsewhere?

If you are non-religious, would you welcome such measures as a move to ultimately eliminate organized religion?

[Replying to post 29 by JehovahsWitness] Did I misunderstand the intent of your post?

The intention of my post is to clarify Jehovah's Witnesses position vis-a-vis persecution. Jesus said to not repay evil with evil so we (as a Christian body) do not react to persecution with violent acts or any kind. Extremist act or encourage others to act violently, Jehovah's Witnesses do not.

No one has suggested to act violently though your response is confusing...

Russians don't get EVERYTHING wrong.

Just joking.. and you don't read what I write but others do.
So, religious intolerance is a bad thing.. we agree.

Now what?

Force other people's religion down your throat?

Smile

I am opposed to placing any restrictions on the rights of people to believe as they choose. The Russians of course have a long history of seeking to control individual rights. Given how cozy Trump has been with the Russians there would seem to be some cause for concern.

Why don't you tell us why you think Trump is cozy with Russians? We elected a business man that of course was trying to do business with Russia, nothing wrong with that.

So, I hope you just aren't saying untrue things and can back up your statement with some facts. Tell us what the president is doing to cozy up to Russia. Bet up don't.

Explain why Russia is flying bombers near Alaska.

Trump seems to see in Putin that which he envisions himself to be; tough minded and smart, strong and virile, and a hard nosed negotiator. Putin seems to see in Trump a buffoon that can be manipulated. I believe that Putin has the measure of this particular situation.

Putin is thumbing his nose at America, which makes him popular at home. Russia was able to maintain the appearance of being the equal of the US in military might for decades. That particular appearance has been shattered, but acting as if Russia is still a world power comparable to the US serves to maintain his popularity at home and helps maintain his grip on power. It's the same reason that Kim Jong-un is constantly challenging the US. Constantly making the US the bad guy who threatens their existence frightens the population and helps Kim Jong-un maintain his grip on power.

As for flying planes near American territory, the US flies reconnaissance military planes in international airspace, just outside of the sovereign airspace of China and Russia, and has done so for years. They don't like it either. It's Russia's way of saying that sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. We have nukes too, and we are not afraid of you.

For no nonsense you seem to full of it.

So, like I said trump trying to do business with Russia.

Please show that Trump wants to be like Putin, Obama did want to be like Hugo Chávez.

Explain why if Trump and Putin are friends what was up with the Trump bombing in Syria?

Again, show me where Trump had anything but business connection with some Russians. Socialists seem to want to point out the Trump Russian connection. Again conspiracy tin hat people.

As Jehovah's Witnesses we are politically neutral; I suppose that makes us an "easy target" when it comes to persecution.

There is much more that makes for the easy targets:
https://www.jashow.org/articles/false-teaching/jehovahs-witnesses/jehovahs-witne...

To name some on this long list:
- The Watchtower Bible & Tract Society headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, USA, was founded over 100 years ago by Charles Taze Russell, who had no theological training, but adopted the title, “Pastor”.
- Early Watchtower magazines (3/15/1913 & 1/15/1912) reveal that he believed a person’s desire to worship God was due to the shape of their brain. He believed that if a dog’s head were shaped like a man’s, the dog would think like a man!
- He offered health advice too, believing appendicitis and typhoid fever were caused by “biting worms in the colon”.
- He sold “miracle wheat” at greatly inflated prices. Despite all this, his followers then (and now) believed that he was God’s “faithful and discreet slave” referred to in Matthew 24:45. After his death, his legacy, the Watch Tower organization became this sole channel for God in the eyes of its followers.
- THAT Jesus Christ (who is Michael the Archangel in their doctrine) is mediator for only a small, elite, group within their ranks called the “anointed remnant”. Others must come to this group who control the organization and earn their salvation by absolute obedience to it.
- THAT all religions except their’s are of Satan, and your Pastor or Priest is under the Devil’s control.
- THAT the Watchtower Society is the only source of truth on earth today, and all churches teach error and will be destroyed at Armageddon.
- THAT Armageddon and Christ’s second coming were foretold to happen in 1874, 1914, 1925 and 1975 by this “non-prophet” organization.
- THAT when Christ failed to show up in 1914 The Society claimed in later years that He had come—invisibly
- THAT none of their “translating committee” knew Biblical Greek or Hebrew. No scholars at all
- THAT Fred Franz, who for many years headed the Society, perjured himself under oath in Scotland in a court trial, by saying he could read Hebrew, and then failing a simple Hebrew test.

Being politically neutral IMO has very little to do with the received persecution. The fact that it, from the outside appears to be a deceptive controlling cult probably has more to do with it than any political stance.
