Post #11The Qur'an is much like the Bible in that it too needs to be understood correctly, and it needs to be translated correctly, and interpretations do get sidetracked or confused.marco wrote: Amazing you say this since the Quran is strong on Hell, where you drink dirty water and have your skin burned off, replaced, then burned off ad infinitum.
The Islamic people are just like Christian people - in that they all fail to understand God correctly, and each of them do not comprehend their own scriptures correctly.
The Apostle Paul explained the concept of Hell the best by saying this:
1 Corinthians 3:
15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

So the real Hell will be a blessed place where sinful people get saved - which is to be wonderful.
To condemn depravity is every person's business and their duty.marco wrote: Well of course they don't. It's not their business.
The real problem is that they reject the proper standards for right and wrong and so they fail to condemn because they are too ignorant to know right from wrong.

Post #12Let's start by getting the facts straight. Here's what the Pew Research article actually says:
(reference: http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/20 ... -atheists/)Although the literal definition of “atheist is “a person who does not believe in the existence of a god or any gods, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, 8% of those who call themselves atheists also say they believe in God or a universal spirit. Indeed, 2% say they are “absolutely certain about the existence of God or a universal spirit. Alternatively, there are many people who fit the dictionary definition of “atheist but do not call themselves atheists. About three times as many Americans say they do not believe in God or a universal spirit (9%) as say they are atheists (3%).

Post #13So what I wonder would be the qualifications for reading Bile or Koran accurately, as you seem to do. Does mundane intelligence fail before the mountainous obscurity of these Holy Books?JP Cusick wrote:

He gave a view and you take an interpretation of Paul's interpretation. You guess your interpretation is a good one.

Do you advance your case by referring to an anonymous multitude as "too ignorant"?
In Matthew we read: "And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?"

Post #14You have moved some 5000 miles from the original point about belief. This is irrelevant.JP Cusick wrote:
Jesus tells the story of people who believe without action in the story of the "Samaritan"
The point made was that many people believe there may be something beyond us. This has nothing whatsoever to do with putting that idea into action - an impossibility - or with hypocrisy. Those people are in fact the opposite of hypocrites, since they honestly see no truth in Abrahamic gods but are reasonable enough to accept there may be some power or powers beyond what humans know. Your grand march into moralising has no meaning.JP Cusick wrote: When people claim to believe and then their actions do not match up = that is what we call as hypocrisy.
Re: Pew Research Center, up to 2% Atheists believe in god?
Post #15It is relevant to my point - that belief without works is a dead belief and meaningless belief.
If an Atheist does as the rightful Samaritan does then the actions of the Atheist count more than any belief or doctrine which has no action.
It takes lots of independent homework including experimentation to test every doctrine for accuracy and truth, or for the lack thereof.marco wrote:So what I wonder would be the qualifications for reading Bible or Koran accurately, as you seem to do. The Islamic people are just like Christian people - in that they all fail to understand God correctly, and each of them do not comprehend their own scriptures correctly.
It would be interesting if we had teachers who could teach the doctrines correctly, but even then each person must do our own research and testing.
I have learned a lot from other people, but I find that they always fall short in other ways, so I take what is right and reject what is found to be wrong.
Some how it appears that God wants people divided in that way, and to break up our old animalistic instincts of running with the pack and forming groups like a herd of mindless cattle.
Not a good one - it is an accurate interpretation.
And mine is based on many other texts from the Bible and it would be excessive to post text after text or quote on top of quote, and there are many supporting text beside Paul, as like in this = "Love thy enemies" here in Matthew 5:43-48
When God punishes people then it is still always a blessing.
I hardly call the evil society of the USA as anonymous, because they show their ignorance in ways too many to count.marco wrote: Do you advance your case by referring to an anonymous multitude as "too ignorant"?
If there is one (1) person at any football game who could be viewed as enlightened - then I would ask what are they doing at such an ignorant event?
Or the national election had 62 million voted for Trump, and 65 million voted for Hillary, so the ignorance is displayed for those who have eyes to see.
I have long hoped to find some group or Church where the people are enlightened, and I have never found any such group be it large or small.

One is right:
[2:26] And give glad tidings to those who believe and do good works, that for them are Gardens beneath which flow streams. Whenever they are given a portion of fruit therefrom, they will say: ‘This is what was given us before,’ and gifts mutually resembling shall be brought to them. And they will have therein mates perfectly pure, and therein will they abide.

Belief and good deeds are both essential.
