Facebook is developing such a technology so that a person can interact directly with a computer or smart phone without a keyboard or talking out loud.

I'd say no to a chip but suspect the idea of a chip implant is going to be one of those futuristic ideas that never gets anywhere because technology has progressed so rapidly there is no need for it. The invasion of person and ultimate surveillance and a threat to liberty cannot be resisted if there are technologies that do not need our permission.

There are also fears being aired of behaviour modification through microwaves and technologies like 5G. But perhaps for the moment these kinds of rumours belong to the blogosphere and conspiracy theory. But then even a few years ago the thought of brain reader technology was science fiction.

As has been widely reported The US Military Is Responsible For Almost All The Technology In Your iPhone. I suspect it will be a similar story regarding brain reading technologies once commercialised.

A great post overall, but I have to highlight this here. You are so right. The whole microchipping thing is actually very old technology now and more likely on its way out than in, especially with new technology coming up now that is probably way superior.
