The summation of God's law

For some there exists today this subtle distinction between a law that is chiseled into stone verses one that is placed in one's heart by God. They believe that codifying God's law has some other purpose other than simply making it easier to understand what's right and what's wrong.

The real distinction is in being able to admit that when one conceives of adultery, fornication, theft, etc. in one's heart, they clearly have not been given that regenerated heart by God yet. This is not an option for most Christians today. They simply will not look at this simple fact.

Paul clearly points out that when one "walks after the spirit" they no longer sin which necessarily makes the law "that was added because of transgressions" redundant and pointless. Where there is no sin, there is no need for repentance, sacrifice or restitution.

In the mind of the modern day Christian this makes no sense for one salient reason; they still sin which means that this isn't referring to them, and it never will until they get honest with themselves and see that they are still under the law just as Paul himself admitted he was. That soul that sins will die is still applicable regardless of whether one is outside the law, or "under the law to Christ".

The fact is that one cannot sin once "faith has come". Why? Because if faith is just as ineffectual at keeping God's will, then there is no point in having Christ's faith operating within the redeemed reborn believer. The fact that Paul points out that the "curse" or "penalty" has been done away with should indicate that there is no need for it, but if one still continues to sin, how can it be done away with? Why do away with the only thing that can save the sinner when they are still sinning?

If the law that is implanted in Abraham's heart allows him to keep God's law in his heart, but doesn't guarentee that it be kept in his heart, then there is no point in writing it down on stone tablets either. If chiseling it into stone would have insured that people kept God's law in their hearts, there would be no need for God to then point out through the prophets that he would one day place his laws into their hearts himself that they keep them.

There is nothing in any of the biblical texts that indicate that God would omit any of these written commandments when they are placed into his chosen people's hearts for the expressed reason of keeping them.

Here again, it is important to note the difference between keeping God's laws and transgressing them. When God places his law into one's heart to keep them in their heart, they necessarily keep them outwardly as well. There is then no need for a sacrificial system. The law "which was added because of transgressions" is no longer necessary. The new creation isn't created to sin. It's been created to keep God's commandments. In a nutshell, all of the commandments can be summed up with this one: "You will love God". Why? Becuase he's placed his love in your heart. To say you will not sin is just as true, but redundant.
