If this story is true the church members are a bunch of evil psychos who should be prosecuted and the church closed. :anger:

Homosexual activity is condemned in the bible and while someone may always have to struggle with such urges they can break free from a homosexual lifestyle and become Christians and still lead happy and productive lives.
Or they can be actively gay, continue to be Christians, and lead happy and productive lives.

Just as this couple does.

I think it is up to each individual to decide what it means to be a Christian. Likewise, they can decide for themselves whether or not they are convinced they are part of a true Christian congregation.

There are plenty of true Christian congregations that have actively gay attendees, members, and clergy.

As is remarriage, eating shellfish, wearing mixed fabrics. So what?
So people that respect the bible and believe it is the Word of God do not engage it.
Is this to say that people who ‘respect the bible and believe it is the word of god’ do NOT remarry (if divorced for reasons other than infidelity), do NOT eat shellfish, do not wear mixed fabrics?

Or is ‘the word of god’ optional when convenient – just respected some of the time?
JehovahsWitness wrote: One cannot be one of Jehovah's Witnesses for example, live an openly gay lifestyle as our religion is based on the bible.
If a person is not open about their homosexuality can they be ‘one of Jehovah’s Witnesses’?

Is a person disfellowshipped if found out to be homosexual (overt or covert)?

Is this claim based on personal experience, testimonials, ....?
Yes.
Congratulations on breaking free of the lifestyle (if that is what you wanted to do).

If one ‘has such urges’ haven’t they already committed the sin according to Jesus saying, “But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart Mat 5:28

Can one be part of the ‘true Christian congregation’ (whatever that may mean) if the fornicate occasionally (hetero or homo sexual) as long as they ‘repent’ each time?

Is there a limit on the number of times one can sin and repent but then fall back to sin and repent again?

That is correct. Jehovah's Witnesses for example do not accept divorce on any grounds except that of adultery. (dietary and fabric laws were part of the Mosaic Law which we do not believe Christians are under).

Do you?

I suspect that we both have a similar attitude to parental rights, as do most balanced individuals, namely parents have the right to educate their children as they see fit as long as the law is respected and they have the children's well being in mind.

Pretty convenient – anyone can ‘follow the rules’ if they can pick and choose which ones apply to them.

So, the Bible isn’t God’s word?

If God gave rules aren’t those to be obeyed?

What gives anyone or any group the authority to say, “Ha ha, those rules from God don’t apply to us – only to other people?

Aren’t the fabled Ten Commandments Mosaic? Why claim to revere them while ignoring others from the same source?

I absolutely DO NOT
JehovahsWitness wrote: I suspect that we both have a similar attitude to parental rights,
I guarantee that we do NOT have similar attitudes toward parental rights.

My position is that parents have an OBLIGATION to equip (teach) their offspring to deal effectively with the real world we inhabit (not just some cloistered environment) and to use their power of reasoning and judgment to decide the best course of action for themselves as soon as they are able (without indoctrination). This includes teaching children the mores of their overall culture – not limited to some in-group attitudes and limitations.

That is exactly my position. When a parent has done the above they have done their job well.
