You MUST believe this book
If you refuse to believe, you will be punished eternally. You must not question its authority
Part of the book is figurative and part is literally true, but I won’t tell you which is which. Figure it out for yourself – and if you are wrong, woe be unto you – forever.
You must not be concerned that it is not known for sure who wrote the book or when. Just believe and be saved. Whoever they were, they knew far more about God than you ever will.
The book was written in different languages and translated and edited many different ways – but every word is true.
The book provides instructions for how to live your life. Although it is quite old and was written by and for another culture and time, you must apply it to your current life.
You must not listen to those who criticize the book – and must disparage them at every opportunity. They are the ENEMY, even if they be your family and former friends.
You must defend the book, even at the cost of your life. If you die in its defense you will be a hero and a martyr (and will be rewarded after your death).
If you have any questions about the book read the book again and again. There are no errors, even if it contradicts what is known of the temporal world. There are no contradictions, even when it says one thing in one place and something different elsewhere.
Devote your life to the book. It is you only hope for salvation after you die.
Even if it seems as though the book tells you to do things that seem irrational, do them anyway because the book cannot be wrong. Your afterlife depends on obedience.
You must set aside your reasoning and judgment because writers of the book had far greater understanding than defective you.
You are a sinner and unworthy. The book says so. Your ancestors misbehaved so you must be punished. You can reduce the punishment if you BELIEVE.
Give generously to the collection plate (large denomination bills preferred) or send in large checks to contribute to building and maintenance of palaces of worship and to the clergy wealth fund (as well as a little political activity).
Questions for debate:
How do we know we must believe the book?
Why shape your life by instructions from ancient writings?
You MUST believe this book

Re: You MUST believe this book
Post #11What exactly are you trying to suggest here?Goose wrote: Why are the sceptics on this site so quick to mischaracterise Christianity?
Are you suggesting that we don't need to believe,....
The creation story told by this book.
The fall from grace story of Adam and Eve.
That the wages of sin is death.
The story of the Great Flood and Noah's Ark.
The ten commandments.
The virgin birth of Jesus.
The teachings of Jesus.
The crucifixion of Jesus.
The resurrection of Jesus.
The idea that Jesus is the only way to salvation.
The claim that Jesus is the son of God.
The idea that all men are sinners and in dire need of repentance.
We don't need to believe any of this right?
Because all of this comes from "The Book" that Zzyzx is referring to.
Clearly you are the one who isn't understanding what Zzyzx is saying.
