Colossians 2:9

Post by Wootah »

For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.

Can anyone explain how Jesus isn't God in this verse please?
Proverbs 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.

Overcomer said: Absolutely true! If you don’t recognize the Trinity and Jesus as the Second Person of the Trinity who came to earth as God Incarnate, then you are not on the road to eternal life.

Absolutly false. That was NOT what Jesus taught ... Not a single disciple of Jesus believed that, nobody mentioned anything like that after Jesus died. If believing in the trinity is what Jesus intended to say in John 17:3, how can be possible that no one of his disciples believed such thing? Otherwise, in John 17:3 there is only ONE GOD who is mentioned ... and His Son, no three gods or anything like that.

It is very simple: if Jesus is full of deity is because "deity" is a quality and Jesus is not the source of it. All real Christians can be full of ALL THE FULLNESS THAT GOD GIVES:

Eph.3:14 On account of this I bend my knees to the Father, 15 to whom every family in heaven and on earth owes its name, 16 to the end that he may grant YOU according to the riches of his glory to be made mighty in the man YOU are inside with power through his spirit, 17 to have the Christ dwell through [YOUR] faith in YOUR hearts with love; that YOU may be rooted and established on the foundation, 18 in order that YOU may be thoroughly able to grasp mentally with all the holy ones what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of the Christ which surpasses knowledge, that YOU may be filled with all the fullness that God gives.

... and:

Eph. 4:11 And he gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelizers, some as shepherds and teachers, 12 with a view to the readjustment of the holy ones, for ministerial work, for the building up of the body of the Christ, 13 until we all attain to the oneness in the faith and in the accurate knowledge of the Son of God, to a full-grown man, to the measure of stature that belongs to the fullness of the Christ; 14 in order that we should no longer be babes, tossed about as by waves and carried hither and thither by every wind of teaching by means of the trickery of men, by means of cunning in contriving error. 15 But speaking the truth, let us by love grow up in all things into him who is the head, Christ. 16 From him all the body, by being harmoniously joined together and being made to cooperate through every joint that gives what is needed, according to the functioning of each respective member in due measure, makes for the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

It would be helpful if you don't try to make it seem like the Bible says what it doesn't say and you want it to say ... This forum is to show that what we say is what the Bible really teaches or what follows from that it says.

Jesus is not full of God, but full of a quality. God is Spirit; there is not a likeness we can compare Him, never seen by imperfect men. We could not have an idea of somebody who is is SO OUT of the material world, if we don't have a real reference. Jesus has bodily a quality of deity, a likeness of his Father so we can understand. It is like having a "Rossetta Stone" to understand a language that not human can understand.

It is the same reason Jesus is called with a name like The Word of God, something so personal, his Representation in the Universe, like Aaron to Moses when they went to Pharaoh. Nevertheless, that does NOT mean Jesus is God himself, or same as I said before, he could not be told to be full of something that would be proper of God ... I can NOT fill God with deity, since God is already God ... or is it God to be something that can be increased or decreased? ... the same way God can NOT be exalted ... there is nothing higher than God to rise Him to.
Exactly. That is why Philippians 2:6-11 does not show that Jesus is God. He was RAISED to a higher position, and if he was God he could not be given more God-hood!

WHAT "reminds you of most of the Christian testament"? To which post are you referring?

If it might be tigger's post, I am aghast at any objection to it. It is clear, reasonable, and scripturally sound. No one could have said it any better. I hope that others will read his post and find the ring of truth there.

Did you read tigger's post #15? Could you comment on his well-presented statements?
