Let he who is without sin...

Post by Willum »

Christians are fond of the tales where Jesus (Joshua) abrogates the Judaic punishment for adultery with the wisdom... “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Now adultery was one of the Commandments, and like the others, violation of it demanded death, according to God.

But some guy named Josh abrogated it with a bit of Hellenic wisdom.
Odd, to say the least.

Judaic law said the adulterer should be stoned, if I were Judaic, I wouldn’t see the problem.

But let’s expand the reasoning, shall we?
Say someone worships another god?
Should they be killed? Or should only those without sin kill them?
How about bearing false witness?
Should their sin be abrogated by “let he who is without sin, cast the first stone?

How about murder?
Or is adultery the only Commandment that can be ignored in this way?

How does this all work out?
How does one address the hypocracy?

Some of your post that I was replying to doesn't seem to be appearing with my reply. I've asked the moderators about it.

Sorry mun, but I don't make my posts for you, or any particular theist-type.

As to my tag-lines/signature, they are not part of the topic, but your lack of understanding of science goes a long way towards why I believe you are some kind of theist.

Please address the topic, not the signature... the topic can be found at the top of every page...

Sorry----new to the site & still figuring things out. Just saw some flawed arguments and thought I would address them. Will make a point of sticking to the topic from now on.

If you wish to address the flaws in the signature line, I believe the topics have already been opened up. You may look for them, and start up your own if you like.
I will never understand how someone who claims to know the ultimate truth, of God, believes they deserve respect, when they cannot distinguish it from a fairy-tale.

If Christians want to believe this story then it proves Jesus is a sinner.

Jesus said (paraphrasing) that those who havent sinned can cast stones at her.

Then one by one her accusers walked away without throwing stones because they were sinners. THENNNNNN..... the story goes out of it's way to tell us that Jesus was stabding alone with the woman and he didnt stone her either. Sooooooo......

Jesus didnt throw a stone. Therefore admitting he was a sinner.

If he wasnt a sinner then he became a sinner by not stoning the woman.

Either way it proves jesus was a sinner

She was guilty simply by what jesus told her.
Jesus told the woman go and sin no more.

Why would jesus not accuse her? According to him only the sinless could accuse her. This proves Jesus had sinned. If he was sinless then he became a sinner when he let her go unpunished.

Peace to you,

"Can" and "must" are not the same thing.

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" is not the same as saying "the one who is without sin MUST cast the first stone."

Not at all.

He did not say any person without sin HAD to cast a stone.

Christ showed that woman what God truly desires: Mercy.

"I desire mercy, not sacrifice." Hosea 6:6

Mercy comes from love, and there is no law AGAINST love.

Peace again to you,
your servant and a slave of Christ,
tammy

Sorry tam, your reasoning is specious.
Avoice has added yet another objection to the story.

Just how many ways CAN the story be wrong, such that it MUST be wrong.

PS - I'll go out on a limb and state Avoice knows full well the difference between 'can' and 'must,' thus enervating your objection further.
Jesus, the man, the myth the legend, is a dismissable.

Sorry.

Jesus did not ignore the law. Those accusing this women ignore the law. The law says that both the man and the woman should be put to death for a crime like this.

But notice they only brought the woman to Jesus. They were giving this women unequal treatment under the law and that is what Jesus was saying to them in a nutshell.

I have a whole sermon on this but that might get a little long.

Brilliant. If you only catch ONE criminal, they should both be allowed to go free.
You sure have an awesome God.

Are you sure you aren't putting YOUR OWN spin on that?
