The fight for the souls of our Youth.

I was listening to a Xian podcast (Apologetics.com):
Youth & Culture: Introducing Them To Abundant Living

Author: Harry Edwards, Jeremy Livermore, Sara Roberts Author: &Author: Sam Welbaum
Mon, Jul 26, 2010

A recent Barna survey reported that the younger generation today was more than twice as likely as all other adults to engage in behaviors considered morally inappropriate by traditional standards. For example, two-thirds of the under 25 year old segment (65%) of the population had used profanity in public, compared to just one out of five Boomers (19%). The younger group, known as Mosaics, was nine times more likely than were Boomers to have engaged in sex outside of marriage (38% vs. 4%), six times more likely to have lied (37% vs. 6%), almost three times more likely to have gotten drunk (25% vs. 9%) and to have gossiped (26% vs. 10%), and twice as likely as Boomers to have observed pornography (33% vs. 16%) and to have engaged in acts of retaliation (12% vs. 5%).

Without question, our young people today face enormous challenges as it redefines what it means to do the right thing in their own lives. Unfortunately it appears these challenges are met with little resistance. Listen as we explore some of the causes of moral decline among the youth and discuss practical ways to overcome them. Hosting the show is Harry Edwards with special guests Sara Roberts, Sam Welbaum and Jeremy Livermore.

I can't type fast enough to tell you how amazed I was at how out-of-touch Xianity and evangelic Xians are with respect to the modern age and youth in general.

There is such a rift that I can see why the Youth are running from Xianity.

For one, they were technophobes and talked about the amazing technology kids use today with disdain - wow, way to endear yourself to the Renaissance Fair group! I'm sure they make up a huge segment of the population!

But the worst part was how they talked about the youth being immoral (all the time ignoring they are basing their idea of morality on 2000 year old social mores that included some really ugly ideas: homophobia, etc.

Then they railed on the youth for being egotistical and narssistic. to the point that one youth leader took a poll of her kids and they scored a 19 on a narsisitc scale, when the average is 15.

She said this showed how vain kids were and how they need to be brought down a peg! The whole tenor was "these kids don't know whats good for them - feeling good about themselves is bad - they need to humble themselves before the archaic and incomprehensible rules of Jesus...."

At first I thought, oh, these people want to help lessen drug use and teen-pregnancy, but it simply switched into "They don't follow Jesus properly, they don't want to, they are vain, they have all that high-falootin technology".

Xianity does this: it tells you over and over again that you are wretched, but then when they are about to lose you, they say - oh, but in God's eye you are special.

They don't think that telling someone the Creator of the Universe is interested in them would increase their good feelings about themselves! In fact, isn't that what they claim: that when they found Jesus they felt good about themselves?

But then they have a person responsble for bringing up kids this is bad?!?!?!? That is horrible.

I'm still listening to it and it is starting to make me sick.. There are so many stupid Xians that feel they are capable of talking to kids and forming their minds and then they rail on kids?

One guy said, "Oh, yeah, and there's that AD, uh, Attention, uh disorder.."

DUDE! if you don't even know what it is called STFU and don't talk about it!

I'm sick of these morons who don't know a damn thing other than the standard company line of Xian manipulation and think they are qualified to lead children.

It's very disturbing.

I am going to finish listening to this and hope that I understand their sick methods better so I can help destroy this horrible manipulation - of children no less!

To listen to them talk about their method of attracting kids to the church is grotesque.

Anyhow, has anyone else heard this kid of slop from the Xian youth group leaders?

I don't understand the title of this thread/theme. The fight for our youth?

Who's fighting and what's all the noise about?

Church isn't fighting.
Youth have no money to give, so why waste time on them?
Noisey, stupid kids......who cares? (God does, but nobody listens to Him any more.)

Higher education isn't fighting.
Parents are preProgrammed to finance education that doesn't....educate.
Colleges and textbook publishers are making money hand over fist.
Why change a good thing? Why kill the golden goose?

The army isn't fighting.
Fresh meat for military adventures of every sort and the parents and communities support it (even though they have no idea at all what they are fighting for....)

The youth isn't/aren't fighting.
For the most part they are mindless robots eagerly accepting and believing everything they're told, even though most of it is rubbish. They will bleed and suffer in the chains of monetary slavery all the rest of their lives......if they don't die in some pointless war (engaged for the sole purpose of profit for defense contractors).

Sooner or later the youth will grow up and maybe even wise up.

But then they won't be youth any more....

and a new generation of suckers will be waiting to be robbed of their hope and life....

ahhh America, is it a great country or what?

Are the stats wrong?

No.

Is the culture becoming more secular, non and anti Christian?

There's only one answer to that isn't there: What do the stats say?

From my experience, much (maybe even most) of Christian youth leadership is sloppy at best. They are out of touch with the issues of young people as they tend to be located (for example) in more affluent areas and from more affluent lifestyles. What they perceived as ‘bad’ or ‘evil’ isn’t. Mostly. However, when you do find those few youth leaders that are in tune with the youth, they are pretty exceptional for the most part. It’s unfortunate that, at least from my experience, those leaders are few and far between

Truth is truth. No matter if it is from a hated Christian (Xian) group.

Our society is not getting more moral. Our youth culture does not look to be heading towards anything other than lascivious licentiousness as the norm. Miley Cyrus anyone? There's your "youth culture" role model huh? Seems like ol' Roman days are upon us once again. Sooner or later there will be a Neo-Nero in the White House looking at the OP as a harbinger of what happens when that "youth culture" becomes active voters.

Hmm, Neo-Romans versus the same consistent Christian concerns????

Truth is truth. While true that's a somewhat trite statement. Might as well say up is up and yellow is yellow.
But if the truth people speak is truly true ( ) then why do so many people who claim to worship the same God have different variables of the same truth?
Likely because what they claim as 'truth' isn't real truth, but truth to them based on their own personal experience.
That's the problem with a religion based on personal experience: it's never totally consistant because there's nothing solid to base it off of. Only what some guy said God said or meant OR what they say God says or means. It's all subjective and no "holy spirit" or religious writing can change that.

The world view of Christianity began 2000 years ago at a time when reality was perceived in a prescientific, superstitious culture where all unknown causes of natural events were assumed to have supernatural agency to them.

As it is today, this world view is continuing to lose touch with an ever accelerating understanding of our world and who we are through the technical applications of scientific discoveries.

For Christians this become an ever increase problem to try to make relevant their 2,000 year old self help reality manual......

Ancient times held ancient scriptures as holy and wise.......we know better today.

Hell at the rate humanity it going if we morph into a cyborg existence in the future of AI and if there are still flesh and bone Christians alive they will be trying to relate the gospel to robots and telling them that Christ's return could be any day now.

Before the printing press and enlightenment of the scientific method the Christian world view in Europe was the dominant view of all society.

Once the printing press allowed the masses to learn and own books.........along with the scientific method of understand our environment beyond proclaimed ancient truths developed..................then the process of a society indoctrination has begun to slid ever so slowly at first and now at an ever increasing rate into insignificance.

Christianity today is finished in developed nations........they are running to places like Africa and other pockets of undeveloped nations or oppressed groups to find new converts.......

Young people today who have access to education and social media are leaving or ignoring faith based world views relative to the generations before them.

There is no fight for any souls.........they don't exist. Christianity assumes they do and they are the only ones trying to fight for something that doesn't exist.

Saving Christianity in developed nations today is like trying to convince kids in the 4th grade and beyond that Santa Claus is still real.....................no one is buying it.
