Personally, I like to read or at least skim through every post of a thread to acknowledge every thing that's being said in it. But the longer the thread gets before you open it or the longer you're away from a thread you was in, the more difficult it bocomes to actually do that. And since I wouldn't want to make a post with a message that's already been expressed to avoid repeated discussions on one point or another, I'll end up not participating in that thread. Which isn't fun if the thread itself holds my interest.
The thread summary could be placed above, or below, or as a link in the OP for someone to have a shorter, yet detailed version of the threads progress. This way a poster jumping on page 10-67 can swiftly put in valuable posts without having to feel like they need to read a book first lol. Especially if that book(thread) that they're reading is still in progress.
Thread summary?

Well, going through every thread can become tiring especially if the person doing it isn't interested in the thread. If every poster puts an accurate subject title in their post where it says title then that can be used to make the summary link. The mod that participates in the thread can see if the title fits the post, if not he or she can edit the title for the poster. The subjects title can be added to the summary link by the poster, the mod of the thread, or the author. This way if someone is busy offline then chances are it will still be done.
Or if the link is too much trouble then the reader can just scroll through the thread reading the subject titles through each page. Since the mod that's reading the thread is looking for violations they will automatically know the best way each post is supposed to be titled, and making sure it's titled correctly wouldn't be much work. If the title is incorrect the mod corrects it without any consequences to the poster.
Only posts that would be required to have a subject title are those that are longer than a paragraph otherwise the post summarizes itself.

Is there anyone here who could write an unbiased summary of a non-trivial debate in progress? I think that task is beyond my own grasp.otseng wrote: Sounds good to me. Any volunteers to write these up?
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.

Suggestion how to self summarize while offering a try out
Post #5Example 1 shown above, but might need a little more character limit to it for convenience and accuracy.
If the responsibility arises to summarize one's own post I would suggest the easiest way for the poster to do so is to first type out their post, then after proof reading it it's easy to give a highly accurate title to the post.
Other than that I could give it a try in say the testing section to see how easy this could be accomplished. The only challenge is having to look up a lot of vocabulary of other users but I suppose that's a good thing.
If it's possible to give me a copy of a thread say 10 pages or less that doesn't have any more posts added to it's copy if the original is in progress, and have the copy in the test section, then I'd like to give it a try out. I'd have to have the ability though to edit every post of that thread only to be able to add the subject title of every post in it and the possible link that would be above, in, or under the OP. If not, then I'd have to make up a thread with fake names, personalities, and wording/vocabulary styles which would take alot longer.
