Denomination Recomendations

Post by Elijah John »

Hey gang...

I'm looking for a church that features long, informative Bible based sermons and old fashioned hymns...

Not necessarily to join, but to learn, to visit.

Any suggestions as to which denominations feature these?

Not looking for liturgical Churches...nor am I looking for modern "mega-churches"...just an old-fashioned type Protestant church..
My theological positions:

-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.

I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

Have you considered visiting the kingdom hall of Jehovah's Witnesses?

The weekend public discourse is about 30 minuites with a 45 min bible based discussion from the Watchtower on various topics.

I'd have to keep my opinions to myself and remember the place for debate is on our boards here, and not there, or any other Church I may visit!
;)

If visitors, (with no intention of converting) are welcome, I think that would be very interesting.

Are the weekend meetings on Saturdays, or Sundays?

Are they called services?

I have had some very interesting discussions with JWs in my home.

It would be refreshing to hear prayers addressed to Jehovah, by name.

More info here

click on "find a location near you" to find the closest.

Are the weekend meetings on Saturdays, or Sundays? Depends. Ususally Sundays but sometimes Saturdays.

Are they called services? No they are called "meetings".

It would be refreshing to hear prayers addressed to Jehovah, by name. There are only two prayers offered per meeting (closing and opening) but there are three songs sung and yes, all prayers are addressed to Jehovah by name.

Thanks JW. There is a Kingdom Hall in my hometown, looking forward to attending and learning.

At the very least, joining in prayer with others that honor Jehovah.

Excellent,

I warn you, you will probably be asked if you would like a bible study if you hang around after to talk, but no need to panic no water boarding techniques will be employed, just politely decline (if that's how you feel) and no one will make you feel bad.

There's a literature counter at the back so you can nelp yourself to all the free books and magazines you want if any of it catches your eye.

I have had many interesting and pleasant home visits with JWs in the past, but have not yet accepted their present day invitations.

Back then I was a Trinitarian and now have more in common with Jehovah's Witnesses, but still, (as you know) several important differences.

Well I think you know your own mind, I think it's fair to say you won't change your mind about something unless you are completely convinced about it, so you have nothing to lose except an hour or so.

Agree, and the time is certainly not lost in discussion and fellowship with others who love God.

At the very least, it is a learning experience, on both sides. ;)
