Following Vatican II, the Catholic Church began to emphasize only two papal ex-cathedra dogmas: that of Mary's Immaculate Conception and that of Mary's Assumption into heaven.
Dealing with the Immaculate Conception, we should inquire when this teaching began and if it is factual or legendary?
Opinions?
Is the Immaculate Conception simply a legend?

Well it's certainly not biblical. I don't know where the idea came from although I know the worship of mother and child deities dates from pre-Christian times.

Apparently, it wasn't even a thing until 1854.
Since it wasn't considered real by the church throughout most of history, I see no need for anyone to fall on their sword for it.

Exactly.....and there's nothing in the Bible that would indicate that Mary had an immaculate conception!Willum wrote: Apparently, it wasn't even a thing until 1854.
