A rather secular ( just a bit catty ) interpretation of a Bible verse.[/center]

I concede that the King James version of Romans 5 is somewhat numbing, and some other versions as well (what version do you have?), but perhaps the
Living Bible would be easier to grasp.
"When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. His sin spread death throughout the world, so everything began to grow old and die, for all sinned [having inherited it through the DNA they got from Adam]....So when their bodies died it was not for their own sins since they themselves had never disobeyed God's special law against eating the forbidden fruit, as Adam had. What a contrast between Adam and Christ who was yet to come! And what a difference between man's sin and God's forgiveness!
"For this one man, Adam, brought death to many through his sin. But this one man, Jesus Christ, brought forgiveness to many through God's mercy. Adam's one sin brought the penalty of death to many, while Christ freely takes away many sins and gives glorious life instead.
"The sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to be king over all, but all who will take God's gift of forgiveness and acquittal are kings of life because of this one man, Jesus Christ. Yes, Adam's sin brought punishment to all, but Christ's righteousness makes men right with God, so that they can live.
"Adam caused many to be sinners because he
disobeyed God, and Christ caused many to be made acceptable to God because he
obeyed."
The Living Bible includes DNA?
Woo...

I had asked you what
your interpretation was of these verses, as, if I recall correctly, you had said that what JehovahsWitness had posted was merely her interpretation. (Re-check out post #60 and post #53, if you would.)
Yeah, an interpretation is just that.
I can interpret a verse.. anyone can do that.. it's child's play.
I don't know what it would demonstrate except that I have a wonderful imagination.
But it sure looks like the "Living Bible" translation has ALREADY interpreted it for me.
DNA?
Are you kidding me?
I'm pretty sure that's not in the original Greek versions.
But I'm always willing to respond to such a polite request, so here I go interpreting that Bible verse up above.
_____________
Interpreting Romans 5:12-19, Living Bible:
1. "When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race "
I take that to mean the Bible blames every bad thing on what Adam did. They call disobeying God a "sin".
2. "
His sin spread death throughout the world, so everything began to grow old and die, for all sinned [having inherited it through the DNA they got from Adam]...."
I interpret that to mean sins pass down by way of DNA, kinda like a gene. We have a kind of gene for sin... It wasn't there before, God had to plant that in. But it's all Adam's fault, of course. God is perfectly blameless in all of this.
3."
So when their bodies died it was not for their own sins since they themselves had never disobeyed God's special law against eating the forbidden fruit, as Adam had. "
I take that to mean people aren't actually GUILTY of Adams' sin... they just "inherit" it like they do their hair color. They have to pay for what Adam did, for some unknown reason. God's wrath, presumably.
Again, let's never forget that Adam is the ONLY guilty party.. not God.. not us.
4. "
Adam's one sin brought the penalty of death to many, while Christ freely takes away many sins and gives glorious life instead."
I interpret that to mean that.. it's all Adam's fault. God JUST HAD TO penalize the rest of us.. because of that rule. And then... Christ comes around and presumably TAKES those sins... kinda. But only if one becomes a Christian. The rest aren't saved at all.. they still have to pay for ever.. again, because it's all Adam's fault. Not God, not Christ, not those who burn in hell... It's just that darn Adam. Why didn't he eat the fruit from another tree? Like a banana.
5."The sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to be king over all"
I interpret this to mean "let's not forget who to put the blame on, psst "ADAM" in case we forgot".
6."
but all who will take God's gift of forgiveness and acquittal are kings of life because of this one man, Jesus Christ. "
I interpret this to mean.. only the Christians will be saved from a horrible fate.. the one caused by that dastardly Adam. God, through no fault of his own has
NO CHOICE but to punish people who don't worship him and his son.
7."
Yes, Adam's sin brought punishment to all, "
Another reminder because we might forget. It's Adam's fault. I'm beginning to not like him so much.. I wonder why?
8."
but Christ's righteousness makes men right with God, so that they can live."
Another reminder that only the Christians will survive. Apparently, the people this verse was meant for were VERY forgetful.
9. "Adam caused many to be sinners because he disobeyed God, and Christ caused many to be made acceptable to God because he obeyed."
Now.. just in case they forgot again, this last sentence really drives it in.
______________
So, let's see what I got here...
It's all Adam's fault.. and Christ is the only way out.
Two completely unsubstantiated claims repeated over and over again.
I take that to be pretty lousy religious propaganda.
Maybe the people this was meant for were:
1. Very very gullible.
2. EXTREMELY forgetful.
I hope my interpretation was fun.

was kinda meant to be )
