If Jesus is Jehovah (YHVH)

Post by Elijah John »

If Jesus is Jehovah, as some say, what then is the name of the Father?

Presumably He has one, as Jesus teaches us in the Lord's prayer to "hallow" the Father's name.

My theological positions:

-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.

I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

There is a lot riding on topics such as this. Because if Jesus is NOT Jehovah, then he is not God. For the Hebrew Bible repeatedly states that YHVH alone is God.

YHWH/Jehovah.

You mentioned that the Father's name is "hallowed." The same Greek word is used in reference to the Lord Jesus in worship in 1 Peter 3:15.

The very same word used for 'sanctify' at Matt. 6:9 is found only at Luke 11:2 (parallel to Matt 6:9) and Rev. 12:11.

But if you are going to allow different forms of the word, then look at Eph. 5:26 and Heb. 13:12 or Matt. 23:17 and John 17:17.

I think you meant Revelation 22:11.

The word can apply to people but no one should "sanctify" anyone else's name but God's name for that is worship (Matthew 6:9; 1 Peter 3:15).

Revelation 15:4
Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed. (ESV)
The same can be said concerning the word "holy" (hosios). In Revelation 15:4 God "alone" (monos - the same Greek word found in John 17:3) is holy and yet other people are referred to using the same word (cf. Titus 1:8).
God alone is holy He in that He alone is to be worshiped (which is the theme of the very next clause). His holiness forms the basis for this worship that is to be ascribed unto Him.
And yet the Lord Jesus receives worship in equality with the Father throughout this book (cf. Revelation 1:6; 5:12-13; 20:6; 22:3).

God is GREAT. Jerusalem is a GREAT city. Therefore Jerusalem is God.

Reason: when an adjective is applied to God and then to something else, that thing becomes God.

If you want to make Jesus into God, then surely this is a weak excuse.

Cite one example where Jerusalem is worshiped.

Has anyone addressed the question of what is the Father's name?

Debating "hallow" vs. "sanctify" is beside the point.

Is the name of the Father YHVH? Or is it not.

And does the Father have a name of His own?

The Lord's prayer sure seems to indicate that He does.

Notice, Jesus did not say "Hallowed be MY Name." Nor did he say, "Hallowed be OUR name".

Why not? That is IF Jesus was Jehovah, as some claim.

If Jesus is not Jehovah, then he is not God.

According to the Hebrew Bible, only YHVH is God.

So the Lord's prayer in and of itself is evidence that Jesus is not Jehovah.

Thank you. And what is the name of the Son?
