So, I'd like to ask the simple question:
Before the crucifix what did demons and vampires (etc ad nauseum) run away from?
The Jews would have no power over them without that idol of Christ, correct?
So how did they get rid of demons, vampires, fairies, unicorns and so on?

Re: Demons before the Crucifix
Post #2I was not aware that "fairies and unicorns" were problems to be banished. News to me.Willum wrote: So, I'd like to ask the simple question:

But you will note that Jesus himself did not use a "crucifix" in order to banish demons. And I don't think vampires existed in first century Palestine.
My theological positions:
-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.
I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

From what I understand about demons all that is required is the name of Jesus to cause them to flee, but in my experience the name of Jesus never seemed to have much affect. Demons are usually better treated by medication.
Perhaps demons have developed an immunity to the name of Jesus over the centuries?

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

You obviously are not aware that fairies image has softened in the centuries. They were not friendly.
I think I'll stand corrected on unicorns, legend has it they are afraid of everything but virgins.
Jesus wouldn't need a crucifix, obviously, any more than you'd need a doll of yourself to work around the house.

Jesus seems to have talked to devils which obligingly identified themselves as Legion, for they were many, residing in one wretch. Incomprehensibly Jesus transferred the demons to a huge herd of pigs which then fled into the sea. There is no record of any compensation being paid to the owner of the Gadarene swine. It is also a sore point with those who feel animals do have some rights.

This are rather complex questions and require complex answers.
For example : The Image of vampires we wear in mind today is shaped by Hollywood and fiction authors.
For example : Stokers Dracula never feared the Daylight until Movie - Nosferatu was killed by it.
However I could Imagine that the Jews created golems to beat up vampires and faeries and ride unicorns.
Further vampires are sayd to be afraid of garlic and of floating water.
Surely you will agree that there existed garlic and floating water before Jesus.

God, the Father...the same Spirit who gave Jesus the power to perform the miraculous in the first place, including driving out demons.Willum wrote: [Replying to post 7 by Regens Küchl]
OK, what God-power existed before Jesus to get rid of demons?
Before Jesus was born, how were spirits exorcised?
