The kingdom of God.

Post by Checkpoint »

Some seem to think it is entirely future, while others give the impression they are always thinking of it as present, and to not be looking at the future in kingdom terms at all.

Jesus had much to say about the kingdom, including this:
Luke 16:

6 The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is being zealously urged into it.
So, where do you stand as to whether it is present, future, or has both a present and a future aspect?

On what basis?

According to which scriptures?

Here's two:

1 -- God cannot lie.

(Titus 1:2)
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

And

2 -- God cannot die.

Yes, the church, which Jesus built is His kingdom. It’s not some denomination. It’s the one we read about in the New Testament. The terms kingdom and church are often interchangeable.

When the gospel is preached and obeyed, the Lord adds the believer to His church, His kingdom.

Matthew 16:18-19
“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

The church is the kingdom on earth. It is spiritual by nature, and if you want to enter, you must be born again. When you are born again, the Lord will add you to His church, His kingdom.

MissKate13 wrote in post 1234 wrote: Fri Dec 02, 2022 7:25 amFirst and foremost, we know the kingdom is here now (Col 1:13, Rev. 1:9, Hebrews 12:28, 1 Thess 2:12, Luke 11:20, 2 Thess 1:5) We know that Christ is reigning over His kingdom (1 Cor 15:25).
RESPONSE

None of those scriptures are referring to the Messianic kingdom (ie the kingdom Jesus taught his followers to pray for that would fulfill the messianic promises). We know this because there are still worldly kingdoms (governments*) in existence and Daniel 2:44b speaks of God's kingdom ruling in exclusivity.
Christ is indeed ruling over his Christian congregation but his world dominating government that will establish idlyllic conditions on this our physical planet earth is yet to take full control of the planet.

MissKate13 wrote in post 1234 wrote: Fri Dec 02, 2022 7:25 amSecond, we know from Jesus’ very own words that the kingdom He spoke of is spiritual, not physical

RESPONSE
God and Jesus are spirits but this does not mean they cannot destroy physical wicked people or entities (governments). Nor does ot mean because God is in heaven he cannot rule over the physical planet EARTH. To suggest neither Jesus nor God cannot rule over the physical planet earth (as part of their territory) because they are spirits is a falsehood*.

* I'm not saying you have said that God being a SPIRIT cannot rule over a physical planet. I am just pointing out that God can rule from heaven over physical fleshly beings living on this our literal physical planet earth.

DANIEL 2: 44

And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom [1] which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people ; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms [2] , and it shall stand forever [3]
.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS [END TIMES]

For thousands of years man has dominated man with various forms of rulership, but Daniel prophecied a moment when Jehovah God sets up his own rulership or kingdom; he that says God rule says perfection (for nothing God does has any faults). What will that mean for those living under the wonderful rule spoken of in Daniel 2 verse 44? Indeed the purpose of all good government is that those under its rule live happily.

PSALMS 145 :16 KJB

Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing
So every natural legitimate desire of all living under the rulership refered to in Daniel 2:44a will be satisfied. The very natural and god given desire for a comfortable home, satisfying food, fulfilling work, a happy family... and who really desires sickness, debilitatjng old age or to be seperated from those we love by death? So our desire live in good health with those we love will be satisfied. Reasoning on Daniel 2:44 we can come to no other conclusion but that those life under God rule will be nothing short of .... idyllic.

DANIEL 2: 44

And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom [1] which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people ; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms [2] , and it shall stand forever [3]
.

[1 ] IT WILL CRUSH AND PUT TO AN END ALL THESE KINGDOMS

Daniel then goes on to speak of the destruction of says all "these kingdoms". Which kingdoms is this referring to? Previous to verse 44, Daniel had listed various human (fleshly) governments/ kingdoms; the babylonian empire, the Greek and Roman empire... even reaching npdown to our day. So the "these kingdoms" would logically be referring human rulerships (governments, kingships, parliaments...) that exist at the time of God's intervention. Notice Gods kingdom does not SHARE dominion, nor does it at this time act through the expression of human rulers but rather it "break in pieces and consumes" (destoys) all rival rulerships and rules in exclusivity.

Can this kingdom be "the church" ? No, because not only does the Christian church exist while human rulerships also continue to exit, Christians have NOT been given authority to "crush and put to an end" governments. [/u].
Objection: How do we know any of this is happening on EARTH? Because "the rock" (the kingdom) comes from heaven and makes impact in the former territories of Babylon, Greece, Rome, and succeeding world powers , namely on earth.
