Many failed predictions of Jesus return..

Post by Elijah John »

Matthew 16:27-28 New International Version (NIV)
27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.
28 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.
There have been many failed predictions of the "2nd coming of Christ". Most notably, Charles Taze Russell who predicted Jesus would return in 1914. When he didn't return, the prediction was revised to mean an "invisible return".

For debate, in light of the quoted passage from Matthew, was Jesus the first person to mistakenly predict his return?

How is Jesus prediction different from any of the others who have mistakenly predicted the time of his return?
My theological positions:

-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.

I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

Just an opinion once again, given for free.

Proof of what you think and how you think, yes.

Proof that what you think and how you think is an accurate evaluation, it is not.

Firstly,

You just say it’s my opinion but never substantiate. :-s

How many times I have to say this: Just saying so does not make it so dear sir.

Secondly,

I don’t have to prove “ jumping between unrelated topics, rapidly switching topics: Mathew 27 talking of one topic, Mathew 28 talking of different topic. “ This was your idea.

The “Jesus had a fantastical beliefs that he was the son of an omnipotent, omniscient, morally perfect God, that he had a special power and importance(the savior of mankind), that he was perfect, sinless is true according to the bible and Christians.

Nothing unusual that in a conversation people move from one topic to another.

Including you and I, and including on this thread.

You say God is "an imaginary being", but...
How many times I have to say this: Just saying so does not make it so dear sir.

Dear sir we are talking about rapidly switching topics, called derailment or loose association; switching to topics that are unrelated.
Nice straw-man though.

I was talking about Satan as the imaginary being.
Nice strawman though.

Your concerned friend,

Moderator Comment

This is a religious debate forum. It can be safely assumed that many of the participants believe that a deity, and perhaps even Satan, exists, and to automatically consign such beliefs to the realm of mental illness and hallucination is at the very least begging the question, and may certainly be considered insulting. Please address the content of the posts, not the characters, or mental stability, of the writers.

No, that's not what we are talking about, but what you are talking about.
