John 5 23 - divinity claim?

Post by Wootah »

Jesus said: John 5 23: that all may honour the Son, just as they honour the Father.

Does any being that is not God deserve to be honoured equally with God?

That's the point of this thread. Listen to Him.

Would you honour the Holy One of God just as you would honour God?

Of course; God wants us to honor His Son just as we honor God; as Christ said. But for reasons already stated, that does not mean that Christ is God (the Most Holy One of Israel). Christ is the Holy One OF God.

Ok well it's simple logic at this point either it's blasphemy or Jesus is God.

You can see it is blasphemy for all things and creatures because you understand my poiint with Donald Trump but you do not apply consistency to a not God creature you call 'the Holy One of God'.

You can't have it both ways.

Wootah, I never mentioned blasphemy at all.

Even so, it cannot be blasphemy to do as God said to do. If it is not blasphemy to listen to/obey/respect the Son as you would listen to/obey/respect the Father (and it is not)... why would it be blasphemy to honor the Son as you would honor the Father?

Do you honour the Holy One of God just like you honour God?

It's blasphemy for not God to claim to be worthy of honour just like the honour we should give God.

The following is blasphemy (and the related words blaspheme, blasphemous, etc):

blasphēme

I to speak reproachfully, rail at, revile, calumniate, blaspheme

II to be evil spoken of, reviled, railed at

Are you suggesting John 5 23: is saying that Jesus should have the respect due to God? If so, why?

Yes. Because there is no way around the word just.

Tim is honouring everyone and making honour mean nothing.
Tam is clearly seeing the issue as it relates to all non God beings but cant see it for ' the holy one of God'.
Your explanation was that just doesnt mean EQUAL it means "in the same manner/ in the same way" but that only helped my argument.

Manner does not mean EQUAL, it means style or fashion or method. So the same manner does not imply that the object of a verb is equal in authority, position, weight, responsibility, or power. So if one speaks to someone in the same manner and that manner is ... say, is polite it means you are equally polite to both King and Pauper. It does not imply the king and Pauper are equal or the same.
