An interesting video on implicit versus explicit knowledge. I really enjoyed it.

Oh, please ignore the racism. Clearly the video maker is an evil idiot.

However, what he says in the beginning of the video, and the theme of the video, about implicit beliefs accounting for everything inherently, makes sense.

He explains it better than I can.

When an implicit belief evolves, it has to advantage the individual, thus, it must take everything into account.

Reason doesn't always. You can easily miss something.

The example he gives is that you might have an island with people on it who have a tradition of eating every part of the orange, including the rind for some religious reason. Intellectuals would come in and tell them there are no nutrients in the rind, so don't eat it. However, the natives on the island then overate the oranges and all got diabetes and died.
