What so many people fail to realize is that there are two (2) dynamics going on here which on the surface seem unrelated which is our biggest mistake
World Oil Reserves
1,650,585,140,000 barrels
47 years of oil left
(at current consumption levels)
World Oil Statistics - Worldometer (worldometers.info)
This means, at current consumption all the known oil reserves will be sucked up and burned in 47 years.
Which means that the world’s major energy source will not be able to meet demand in 20+/- years.
If the world acts now to gradually switch from oil to renewables the transition will a peaceful one. If we do not do this, a world global fight will occur to control what oil is left. This will lead to WW3 which in itself will burn up what is left.
The term Armageddon comes to mind.
used in a generic sense to refer to any end of the world scenario.
Armageddon - Wikipedia
This may not concern you because you will not be around then; but your grandchildren will !!
Fighting climate change and discovering new renewable energy sources are fighting to achieve the same thing. The survival of the human race.

Post #31Well if you are referring to both those who survive and struggle and those who survive and do not struggle, yes.mgb wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 1:36 pmI agree entirely. There are hard times to come but a new way of life will emerge for those who endure and survive.William wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 1:19 pm [Replying to mgb in post #28]
That doesn't matter. My argument is that 'all is not lost' because there are people occupied in conserving what can be conserved in the face of the event on the horizon which signifies at least the extinction of the majority of humans and their cultures.Civilization cannot be reconstructed in the short timeframe we have been given. There will need to be dramatic changes. It seems we will be forced to revert to a simpler way of life.
No all who might survive will be in the "Mad Max" category having to struggle daily just to survive.

Post #32Either that or humans will go extinct. It is estimated that somewhere between 10,000 and 100,000 species go extinct every year. There is no reason to assume we won't someday be on that list. We are after all just another brand of animal.

Post #34Sadly I must agree. When the oil supply starts to dry up and gasoline prices start to climb beyond one's ability to pay panic will follow. It is an inevitable event we will witness in the next decade or less.mgb wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 7:12 amYes they can but not 7+ billion of them. True but not all is lost. There are industries who know what needs to be done and are doing it. China is out front on this. China knows what is coming and is actively enacting policies to address this before a wave of panic overwhelms their society.

German electric cars
Telekom, a large European telecommunications company headquartered in Germany, confirmed that they are putting in place a massive plan to more than double the current electric car charging infrastructure by converting their distribution boxes. The company is in the process of updating 12,000 distribution boxes in their network in Germany.
A spokesperson told the German business newspaper Automobilwoche that they plan to build charging stations out of those distribution boxes – including 500 100-kW fast-charging stations.
The rest will be level 2 charge points capable of a charge rate up to 22 kW.
With around 10,800 public charge points in Germany at the moment, the plan alone would double the current charging infrastructure in the country.

As of 2017, BMW had installed more than 65,000 charging poles scattered across more than 90 Chinese cities, in cooperation with the four major Chinese charging network operators, including Qingdao Teld New Energy.
China is the host of the world’s largest public charging network for electric vehicles, with a total of more than 440,000 charging poles in the country, including 213,903 public charging poles and 231,820 private charging poles.

Post #37Of course that depends on how you define human but that's just semantics.
We are no longer natural human beings in the sense that we have broken our connection with nature.

Post #38Yes, but electric vehicles are for the future. In the meantime we must deal with a lot of turmoil in the world as the effects of climate change etc get worse (and the 'etc' here is all the other stuff I mentioned)

Re: Fighting climate change & end of oil colliding
Post #39This will have to happen because of the structure of the system most of the world has adopted. Those with the most money have the best chance. Those with mere millions, not so much.
Those in debt to that system [ground-suckers = bottom level] even less.
If the wealth was invested in humanity, would it make a difference?
Is that a rhetorical question?
