Is it reasonable to believe in God?
Note, the question here is not whether you think it is true that God exists, but simply whether such a belief is reasonable or not.

But boy howdy did it go off the rails
I'm still in the no camp on that'n.
I, Joey of Knothead, do not believe in the existence of a god or gods.

Post #182"do not believe in the existence of a god or gods." Is that the same as "believe that GODs don't exist?"JoeyKnothead wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 3:41 pmLest there be any confusion...William wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 3:36 pmLooking back on previous conversations;JoeyKnothead wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 6:08 pmNope, not what I said.William wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 5:21 pmThe implication there is that you are saying GOD exists.JoeyKnothead wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 5:13 pmIt was an analogy on how something - god or not - exists independent of observation.

Post #183For me, and only me, yes.

Post #184I am not one to stand between a man and his beliefs. [Thinking about mules and faces/ribs et al]
Tangents such as these are unnecessary and off-topic re the question of GOD.I also don't believe such as tooth fairies, Easter bunnies, and Santa Clausi exist.

That you don't see the connection doesn't mean it's a tangent.William wrote:Tangents such as these are unnecessary and off-topic re the question of GOD.JK wrote: I also don't believe such as tooth fairies, Easter bunnies, and Santa Clausi exist.

I meant that to stand between a man and his beliefs can be analogous to standing between the back end of a mule and the barn wall.Oh no, I believe mules exist.
That I don't have any firmly formed beliefs which promote those connections, means that - for me anyways - it would be a tangent to go off on with ye.That you don't see the connection doesn't mean it's a tangent.

Re: Is it reasonable to believe in God?
Post #189We all serve something each moment of our lives (be it family, wealth, God, whatever). The object of our service is evinced by our actions, and is what I call the spirit we are in. (Spirits are our chosen masters if you will). What further evidence or validation do you need to be able to speak of such things? Even if they're just ideas in our heads, they still exist.TRANSPONDER wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 10:48 am [Replying to theophile in post #178]
Bottom line, what is undisprovable is not evidence. The fantasy about interconnected human supernatural something is not a valid claim until you validate it; it is not a Faithclaim that is to be considered true until 100% disproven.
But perhaps it comes down to this: whether choice exists. If it does, then the object of our service takes on much more significance (why else do we choose it?). If it doesn't, I would concede that the spirits I'm speaking of become rather meaningless.
So is that what you all are trying to say I wonder? That we don't have choice? ...
