"GOD HAS WIND"

Post by William »

As per most biblical subjects, believers have a variety of contrasting ideas about "The Breath of God" - what it means and what its function is.

For example, this from a Christian who has obviously put some thought into the question:
The challenge then of the translator is to take a word in one language and to render it accurate and understandable in another. Would a literal rendition [wind] accurately transmit the intended MEANING in the case of Genesis 1:2? Refering to God's "wind" may either leave the modern reader wondering if YHWH has gastic problems or indicate he only had RUACH after the creation of air/oxgen ("breath"). And although, "spirit" is entirely acceptable, the translator might be able to better transmit the meaning of the Hebrew in this context by another term.

So from "the BREATH or WIND [of God]" how does one get "active force" ?

The idea presented is that "The Breath of God" is:
"An invisible force."
"An invisible force or power."
"The invisible power of God."
"The outgoing divine energy and power."
"The power of God."
"God's power in the creation of the cosmos."
Q: Is this "breath" separate from the God or an aspect of the God?

First off, one can ascertain that - as a metaphor - the idea of the BoG is to say it is evidence of God "doing" and thus it is visible in those things which are "done" or "being done".

For example, it is what forms these things.

Yet again the Christians remain silent in regards to explaining their own philosophical beliefs, by not answering simple questions put to them.

They make such belief claims which they are (obviously) unable/unwilling to support.

Has the "wind" gone from their sails?

Perhaps...

"The sound of Crickets chirping" is a reasonable analogy.
