Are they maybe ignorant about this like most christians are ignorant about the role of roman politics in shaping their scripture?

Anyway the guys here who are trying to defend the pedophile should try actually spending some time with 6-9 year old girls. I think the position you take is simply unthinkable for a good parent.

In my country (Iceland) , an adult was recently got sentenced to a year in jail for sleeping with a 14 year old girl.

I would say 14-15 is the borderline between absolutely wrong and relatively wrong for adults having sex with children, slepping with a 9 year old is just plain cruel and evil. In fact I can't imagine it being anything but a rape ...

by most standards, informed consent is required for a sexual act to not be rape, and informed consent is considered impossible at the age of 9.

Imams at mosques, people I spoke to (muslims), etc. would tell me that this was normal for the time. And it was exactly this sort of thing which made me realise that if Muhammad did what everyone else did, then he is a man of his time, and NOT an eternal example for mankind to follow.
