I am trying to find out if there is any correlation between one's postion on Calvinism/Arminianism and one's position regarding the creation account.
If you consider yourself a Calvinist, at least 3 points, what is your position on creation, literal 24 hour days, and also the flood --local or global. Please make it short and stay on topic. It could look like this.
Arminian, 6 literal days, Global flood, or
Calvinist, [except Limited Atonement] Era/ Epochs of Creation, and Regional Flood.
or Arminian, Gap theory Creation, Global Flood.

Well I am armianan and believe in six literal days of creation of this planet. On the other hand I do believe there is a gap between the original Creation of the universe and then of this planet. I am not sure that was the gap theory you were speaking of. The flood was world wide.

Not wanting to dismiss your study I thought I should ask a few questions as I remember being an Armianan yet I had Calvinist influences from both Baptists and others but went through a transition from Methodist Armianan to More Mennonite/Anabapist to quasi-Ebonite to nut.
The Bible has a lot of Calvinist ideas as well as Armianan.
The more Calvinist leanings made me suspect the Bible where we should suppect the writings and the people that used them first.
The message is clear, it is your fault, unless it is good, then it is God's grace so obey!
I think Calvinist have it the best as if you get right down to it you know who is saved because they are so blessed and obey or they are blessed dammed to hell.
But getting bless is a sure sign as long as you got all the signs of obedience.
Now creationism came up later in my life then the Calvinist/Armianan debates and reading and was frankly a surprize. I was in the middle of Process studies and it took my awhile to understand what they could even mean.
So back to your survey.
How are you going to find a "correlation between one's postion on Calvinism/Arminianism and one's position regarding the creation account"?
I would think there would be those on both sides of the fence on both sides of creationism.
You could have creationist that didn't know what you even mean by Calvinist/Armianans or how it even mattered, God created the universe 6000 years ago in 6 days, end of story.
Then you could have the Calvinist/Armianan (interchangable) that does't believe in creationism or any variation.
Good luck.

Maybe I am wrong as I could very well be one of the elect.samuelbb7 wrote:Good point Cathar.
By the way I have no problem with the 4.7 Billion year estimate on the age of the universe.
I don't have to worry about obedience as I don't do anything anyway.
But I got this in my email and can only be because I am blessed.
Just think of all the books I could buy.IMPORTANT NOTICE

I do. The earth is 4.3 Billion and the estimate on the universe is about 13 to 14 billion.samuelbb7 wrote:Good point Cathar.

“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

How do reconcile the two?
The higher more scientific figure (shall we go with goats figures for this? i think it would be best) is derived through many scientific methods, none of which estimate that planets can be created in 6 days?

I respect your opinions and value your input where it relates to the post. I am not sure what you mean? How do you reconcile the two.... What??? being Arminian and the old age of the earth???
This post is not about the varying discrepancies of evolutionist theories. Those things are discussed in numerous other posts.
It does acknowledge that many Christians hold differing views concerning Creation, and how those views intersect with Calvinism vs Arminianism.
As you have surely read the announcement on the opening page of this forum, this presupposes that the Bible can be used as a credible source, and this specific thread also not only presupposes belief in the Bible as the inspired, infallible word or God, but that God created the earth- whether in six sequential days, or six long eras or epochs.
Please understand i respect your views and i would also especially welcome your view on the poll.
I just know that usually people who don't believe the Bible to be true usually are not concerned with sides of a theological debate, other than say i would participate in a debate on who is better, Batman vs Superman, or why Daffy Duck is better than Elmer Fudd.
There is a correlation between ones position on Calvinism vs Arminianism, and their position on Creation -- Calendar Day Creation, vs Day/Age Theory.
Cordially,
Salt Agent.

You are correct goat I was giving the current estimate of the age of the earth not the universe. So I did make a mistake.
I do find it interesting that as the Bible predicted the Universe and the earth have a definite beginning.
On the six day creation. The creation starts with the earth in a state of disarray and having to be set in order and life being added. Science cannot adjust for this since it would be a miracle of collapsing what they consider millions of years of events into six literal days. Which is what I believe is the case. I cannot prove that this is true. But there are major problems with Evolution and the formation of life from nonlife that have no explanation.
On the opposite I cannot explain how GOD could do it.
