Dianaiad stated that I could not find three atheists on this forum that did not believe there views were objective.
So the question for this debate. Atheists, do you believe your views are objective?
Atheists in this forum. Do you claim objectivity?

All views are inherently subjective. Until you can take the human mind, human experience, and human uncertainty and mistake out of human understanding, we are always only every going to approach and arbitrary proximity to objectivity. All we, or anyone else can do is strive to come as close as possible.

Not only do I not believe that my views are objective, but I don't believe that anybody's views can be objective.
Everything is filtered through our subjective self. I have no idea what the world looks like from outside of my own senses.
Now, I believe that all my views are rational, and that I have a worldview whereby I immediately abandon a belief if I deem it irrational. But rationality is not the same as objectivity.
The notion that atheists consider themselves objectives is probably the most absurd untruth I heard on this forum.
We are not the ones claiming to hear the voice of the creator of the universe inside our head, you know?

Regarding God. Yah. Absolutely.
Regarding religion. Not even close.
Regarding the world. It depends. We've got a big world.

All beliefs, ideas, thoughts et all, all those things that make up our sense of an individual self, are mental constructs and are and can only be subjective.

The concept is not material or tangible to me. I cannot demonstrate it to exist as a rational idea like I can with mathematics or logic. Once the emotional and personal prejudices for the idea are removed there is nothing factual left of the God concept.
Re: Atheists in this forum. Do you claim objectivity?
Post #8I can understand the lack of belief in the concept. But does a lack of belief necessarily reflect absolutism in the other direction? Do you empirically believe there is no God, or just that it doesn't seem probable? Is there some part of you that may think that there is a possibility of the God concept? And by this I mean God, the concept in general, not necessarily one religion's definition of God.Janx wrote:Sure JayDeist,JayDeist wrote:Hello Janx, I want to fully understand your meaning. Post #9An absolute stance would be irrational. I remain open to entertain supernatural concepts but at this moment I'm certain beyond a reasonable doubt that God is a fantasy.JayDeist wrote:I can understand the lack of belief in the concept. Re: Atheists in this forum. Do you claim objectivity?
How can anyone claim objectivity for "views" that are ONLY their mental construct, only what they choose to accept?
The theistic claim that their views are "objective" because they come from the subjective writings of unidentified ancient storytellers is invalid because the source cannot be shown to be from anything more than imagination.
As a Non-Theist, I recognize that a person's views are NOT objective -- but are totally subjective (existing in their own mind -- with the term "subjective" defined as "arising from conditions within the brain or sense organs and not directly caused by external stimuli").JayDeist wrote:Atheists, do you believe your views are objective?
